I need to educate myself a little on tornadoes

I bought a DVD from the Skywarn website that is really very good in helping me learn what to look for and the differences in various storm formations. It was an advanced training video but still very useful

Just had a moderate downpour + hail, here. The hail was crystal clear. Never saw that, before.

I'm in Johnson county and as far as I know we never had a warning. I know that Lawrence had some action, and so did Leavenworth county. We could hear the sirens from Bonner Springs in the distance but ours never went off. It rained and got loud but that was the extent of it in our little part of the country!
BTW- that video was amazing. Did anyone catch where the footage was from?

1 mile West of the Bonner Springs exit on I-70.

Looks like Hays will be missing out on all the action today. Everything Ive read is pointing to points east of here.

Going right between Hays and Salina, what do we have to do to get some weather?

I was at the Royals game last night in KC. The storm just passed to the north of us, they never postponed the game just kept playing because it didn't rain where we were at. There was some impressive lightning last night as we left the game and headed west back to where we were staying. We left KC this morning as seen the damage west of Bonner Springs, a house sustained damage and there was a barn that was demolished. I seen some tin wrapped around the fence along the interstate. We did run into the storm in Ellsworth county earlier today and received some hail and rain. We took cover under an overpass until the hail quit.

Off topic a bit but this is a pic from the Royals game last night. This was before the tornadic storm passed to the north of the stadium.

I think this year as far as storms are concerned, we are in a WAGGS cycle

Maybe it'll just be one of those complaining farmer years so common here. Spring starts off slow and the farmers bitch about no rain for the wheat. Then it rains some but farmers bitch that it's too little and too late for the wheat. Then a week or two before harvest should start there's all kinds of wind, hail, and rain so the farmers can bitch about losing the wheat.

Got just under 5" in the rain gauge yesterday and over night.

I have lots of good friends that are farmers. And they wouldn't deny that they are always bitching about the weather.

I was in a small town somewhere around Norton years back. There was a restaurant in town that I thought was named rather oddly.... It was called "The Happy Farmer" ........ talk about a contradiction in terms........

The farmer is happy if he gets enough subsidies so that he can spend all day drinking coffee and complaining about the weather.

If the weather were perfect for farming for one full year the farmers are so used to complaining that they would complain about not having anything to complain about.


Around here you can sure tell a farmer. You just can't tell him much.

Seriously, do we (in the eastern side) really need more rain?!? Enough, already!

They'd just complain about all the crop insurance they wasted money on, and all the long hours and cost involved in harvesting those bountiful crops.

Bullshit. They would complain just the same as always.

Everything would STILL be too early... or too late... or too wet... or too dry. The rain would come down too fast and all run off... or it wouldn't rain in the right place.
