Advice needed about Child Support Empty
PostSubject: Advice needed about Child Support   Advice needed about Child Support Icon_minitimeSat Apr 12, 2008 9:10 am

This is a long story but I will try to make it as short as possible.
My oldest child will be 15 this June and his absent parent has been paying $188 per month for the past 15 years.( I realize I'm lucky to even get this) But I was not aware until a few months ago that child support can be reviewed every 3 years and modified if need be.
My ex has NEVER paid more to help out although he has agreed numerous times to help with some extra medical and school supply costs but never ended up doing it.
He agreed to pay half of the braces and even had a payment agreement sent to him, and never signed it.
Knowing that I was paying the down payment and the date was agreed upon.
He has NOT been a productive parent in my childs life either. He denied my child a year after he was born. And has been in and out of his life inconsistently up until 2 yrs ago.
My son had enough and decided He did not want to talk to his Dad anymore.
So he has not had any contact with him for 2 yrs.

Ok now back to the child support. In the mix of all this I was informed that if I want the child support modified I should agree to allow the absent parent the right to alternate claiming my child for Tax's! Shocked Shocked Shocked They will determine the modification amount according to my answer. IF I say NO then more that likely the support will be lowered. IF I say YES then it could go up.
I don't think he deserves a damn dime! I sure wish they would start sending jars of Vaseline when they are going to screw you in the butt so you can lube up good and proper! I'm so tore up my tummy hurts!

Who told you that if child support was modified, your ex should be allowed to claim him on taxes? I've heard of this before, but was under the impression that custody had to be shared pretty evenly, for the "absent" parent to be allowed to claim the child on taxes. I'm sure someone will correct me, if I'm wrong.

My ex was given a $25 monthly reduction in support payments, for travel expenses (tells you how long ago that was) when he came to get our son for his visitation. He never made a single trip, nor did he make one phone call to check on his son. He never sent letters, or birthday cards... nothing. Yet he was always allowed this reduction.

I've not known anyone who has requested an adjustment in child support, who actually was granted an increase.

Good luck.

The attorny is the one that told me this they sent a paper with 2 boxes to check off
one said I agree to alternate claiming my child for taxes.
The other said I do not agree and am aware it could reduce the payments.

I called and asked about it and was told that they have to weigh it out to be even for both parents...lol thats a laugh I tried to explain some of the situation and was told they have nothing to do with that part, they are just there for the financial part. I have full custody of my son there are NO papers stating any visitation.

So, will you have a hearing?
The form said "could", not would, reduce the payments.
Is this through KPC, or private lawyers?

Personally, I wouldn't agree to the tax issue.

It is through the KPC through SRS it was started in Pawnee County when my son was born but I live in Barton County now, BUT they had to refer it to Hays because of the Jurisdiction.. When I spoke to the Legal secretary she indicated that it would go down..

The secretary can't know what will happen. Nobody will know until the incomes are compared.

she was someone in the office I'm not sure if she was the one dealing with the case directly or not I cant say her name. or the Attorneys office but they are in Hays, I realize no one knows anything for sure until all forms are filled out, Another joke.. he NEVER responds to things like this until it turns into a legal situation.
But anyway I guess I just feel a little bullied by the option I was given. More so out of spite I don't want him to get any money he doesn't deserve.
