... WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN KANSAS
Barber Barton Clark Comanche Edwards Ellis Ellsworth Finney Ford Gove Grant Gray Greeley Hamilton Harper Harvey Haskell Hodgeman Kearny Kingman Kiowa Lane Lincoln Logan Marion Mcpherson Meade Morton Ness Pawnee Pratt Reno Rice Rush Russell Saline Scott Sedgwick Seward Stafford Stanton Stevens Sumner Trego Wallace Wichita THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DODGE CITY HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT.
SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF UP TO 6 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BY LATE FRIDAY EVENING. SNOW WILL BEGIN THURSDAY NIGHT AS NORTH WINDS INCREASE INTO THE 30 TO 35 MPH RANGE. WIND GUSTS TO 50 MPH ARE ALSO POSSIBLE ON FRIDAY WHICH COULD REDUCE VISIBILITY TO LESS THAN ONE HALF MILE AT TIMES WITH NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ON FRIDAY.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW... SLEET... OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
More Information
... SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY...
.A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER NEW MEXICO AND DEEPEN ACROSS THE TEXAS PANHANDLE ON THURSDAY NIGHT. WITH ABUNDANT MOISTURE IN PLACE THE SYSTEM WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 6 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS... ESPECIALLY NEAR THE OKLAHOMA BORDER. STRONG WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS COULD REDUCE VISIBILITY IN BLOWING SNOW... MAKING DRIVING VERY HAZARDOUS. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE.

| Saw it too Slick......Was a different model than they ran at 5 but at the top of the hour at 6 it was 17+". It was also my understanding that the watch had been or would shortly be changed to a warning. Hubby isn't believing it either. Of course, they didn't show it during the actual weather segment. Since no roads have been treated I am likely to believe that accumulating snow is a strong possibility. | |

Yeah, Merrill says that and the ground is too warm for all of it to stick and I've been saying that too. And he's talking about maybe some amounts close to a foot, but well south of the Hays area. I figure even if 10 inches falls, by Saturday half will be gone and by next Monday only a little will remain. It's not supposed to stay very cold and rebound temps fast. The late March sun is too warm for snow to stay long. We did have two wicked blizzards in the late 80's the last part of March a week apart. But I look for this one to center further south than those did, and the temp rebound to be faster. I guess we'll see. Don't be surprised at thundersnow though.

... BLIZZARD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT... ... WINTER STORM WATCH IS CANCELLED...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DODGE CITY HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT. THE WINTER STORM WATCH HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
SNOWFALL AMOUNTS BETWEEN 8 AND 16 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS NEAR THE OKLAHOMA BORDER ARE POSSIBLE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY. HEAVY SNOWFALL COMBINED WITH STRONG WINDS OF 25 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH WILL CREATE NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF FRIDAY NIGHT BUT GUSTY WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO BLOW AND DRIFT THE SNOW.
A BLIZZARD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FALLING AND/OR BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITIES. THIS CAN LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AND MAKE TRAVEL VERY DANGEROUS. More Information
... MAJOR WINTER STORM LIKELY THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY...
.A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING OVER NEW MEXICO AND THE TEXAS PANHANDLE. THE SYSTEM WILL STRENGTHEN THROUGH THE DAY AND MOVE ACROSS OKLAHOMA TONIGHT AND FRIDAY. ABUNDANT MOISTURE WILL COLLIDE WITH COLD AIR FROM THE NORTH PRODUCING A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM OVER SOUTHWEST KANSAS TONIGHT AND CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY NIGHT SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL RANGE FROM 8 TO 16 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS... ESPECIALLY NEAR THE OKLAHOMA BORDER. STRONG WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AS WELL AS VISIBILITIES NEAR ZERO.

| I have a dumb question, if KAKE's predictions are right and they say we get the 25 inches they are predicting now why are we in a Winter Storm Warning and other areas northwest of here that's not getting that much snow has a blizzard warning? Truthfully I think KAKE needs to put down the bong because its not going to snow that much. I'd be really surprised if we even get 6 inches. I would love to see the 25 inches of snow, that would be a great time tomorrow trying to get around Hace. | |

blizzard warning has nothing to due with the amount of snow is is the wind coming with the snow
