Hell,I dunno-I never called anything a draw before moving here.Where I come from It's a canal

I suppose its one of those local language things. My guess would be that we don't call it a canal because there isn't always water in it??? I really don't know- maybe we'll have to pop over to the Hace, KS thread and ask the local translators!!!

I'm gonna miss the ditch when I move,I think I got attatched to it when I moved from Ellis and spent EVERY day at Big Creek fishing It ain't Big Creek,but it's my ditch

yeah the creek at Ellis is a pretty place to boat and fish or just relax. On a warm day you can find a big cottonwood to sit under and watch the gentle breezes blowing puffs of cotton off the tree creating a summertime blizzard. Occaisionally a fish will jump breaking the surface of the water, sending ripples out in all directions. Other times you will see a family of geese swimming down from the west and the momma and poppa geese escort their fuzzy little hatchlings on an excursion to learn of the new world they are now a part. Perhaps a group of kids will gather on the bank and have a group swim, splashing and laughing with youthful exuberance.

I want a snowman ! Nothing like a good old sledding trip down by the over pass ! Kind dangerous now you have to miss those signs that they put up, I guess just to make it more fun.....

Local translators make house thread calls. Had to read pretty far to find it.

It is a natural draw that was "enhanced" by man to fit his needs.

Where I grew up we call it the wash. They have great big washes in L.A. All washing to sea!

News said you guys got hail. I hope it wasn't too bad.

I didn't see any hail. It rained so hard that I thought there was some hail earlier. Now it's just cloudy and humid.

I think that was a little south and west of town.
Between Cedar Bluff and Schoenchen it got a lot of weather.

For those who want to know, the photo is Chetolah Creek. I grew up on the 1300 block of General Custer, beside the Chetolah Creek. I saw water come out of it's banks once up towards our houses. Very creepy feeling. We called it either the creek, or crick. Either is acceptable. The other main drainage canal/ditch is Lincoln Draw. Usually called Lincoln Draw, but I've heard it called the canal, the draw, and the ditch.

The serious stuff is staying south of us. For now.....

We should be fairly safe now that I have the video cam back. Nothing will happen.

Watching storms is fun to a point, but don't wish too hard or your neighbors might be telling a news camera how sad it was that a tornado tore your house away and threw a dump truck into the basement where you and your family were hiding.

Yeah I love weather, but I dont wish anyone harm!

I like watching the storms, but not always the results. Nothing I've ever seen compares to seeing a large tornado close up. You don't realize just how big they are until you see one less than a mile away. Sitting there quietly and suddenly seeing 3 inch hail landing in front of you is a trip too. Often the really big hail will start with just one or two stones falling in the distance and it takes a second to realize what you saw. Then you see another, and another as it creeps towards you then suddenly it's like you're under attack and you hope your windshield takes it.

Ive never been close to a tornado........seen them off to the north and west of Hays once, standing outside of Village Inn, but they were far enough away. Biggest hail was maybe golf size hail!
