In a perfect world, the Blue carts with the auto load system may work fine, but this is not a perfect world and they will end up findingb out it is a lost experiment that will cost the taxpayers more money than it is worth. Give it time, they will be back to manually loading the trash. It is the most effective way possible.

Of course they are pissed. It's the pet project we already paid for, but still continue to pay for. (the extra $3 per month.) Just a guess, but 10,000 homes times $3 is 30k a month plus tax. Gee whiz.... Another way to milk taxpayers, but it goes to a good cause. HCVB!!!!!

Nope.
Poly carts were a stupid idea and another waste of taxpayer dollars. There are MANY more things that needed fixed first. They need to be made aware that just because the old site went away, the people did not.

$200,000 you wouldn't notice in a street program. They never said what project it would finance, so I suspect it is a hedge against the higher cost of the same list. Fuel ya know.

Oh I just love how this poly cart thing will not go away. It is the biggest waste of money and fuel I've ever seen. Oh was it just me but did I not see an ad in the HDN where the city is looking for a refuse collector? I thought the idea was to not have the collectors, the city would save money on workmans comp insurance. Oh ya, they still are out there picking up 'recyclables'. Idiot city commissioners.

I cann't believe the city ! I have 6 people in my family, I got a letter telling me that we were littering the alley & it was with pictures ! What was going on is that the cart does not hold all the trash, so we put the extra bags out in the alley, they come by pick up their cart full and leave the rest on the ground bedside the cart, then we go out and refill the cart.
What else are we to do ? The city tells me that for a higher fee and another cart that they would pick that up............what are we paying for ?? Oh we will only pick up what we want to and over charge you for the rest. This is paid every month on our bill.
OK to buy a hunting and fishing lodge in another county under the name of water, knowing there is no way in hell that you can get it here, but to help the locals do the simplest things in life like take out the trash, we get screwed over.
By the way I feel better now...........!

Fees:
$15.20 per month per unit. Additional $7.60 per month, if another polycart is needed.
so $22.80 a month for 2 poly carts, not sure what the local private sector charges, guess I could make some calls and find out, but, $22.80 is on the low end for service where i was living.
Just my thoughts.

Maybe, if you have to pay for an extra poly cart, it will encourage you to reduce the refuse your household creates. The more you toss, nitro, the quicker the landfill... well... gets full. Then what?
The places I've lived that use poly carts, do the same thing. Here, it's an extra $11.00/month for an additional cart, whether you use it weekly, or not.

We are a family of 6, plus 4 extras during the day, and we rarely fill our cart, which is the same size as the one's you use in Hays.

what ticks me off is that the great city of hace won't let you buy an extra cart out right. you have to pay for it, just throw your money out the door like running your furnace at 90 degrees with all the windows open

Are you all saying the City Manager doesn't see that funds are used wisely? The $200,000 spent on streets is a drop in the bucket compared to the 11 million dollars proposed for a bike trail.............
He was trained by the prior City Manager Mr. G. and did Mr. G. spend money wisely???? No....

I understand that if our cart is stolen, we have to pay for it. Question; since I have to pay for the theft of city property, is it OK if I go out and spray paint it with really big orange house numbers so it's easy to identify?

I recieved a letter from the city that quote "Trash collection drivers noted that the lid was open . Please close the lid after putting trash inside it to prevent damage." The statement was underlined " If corrective actions has not been completed, we will need to take futher steps to resolve this issue". Now tell me how I am to keep the lid closed . They will fine me for having the lid open ????????????? IT's to bad that this CITY doesn't have better things to do like control the drugs drinking street conditions ect !!!! It's bad enough you have to chase it up and down the alley when the wind blow now I will have to quit my jobs to stay home and babysit my trash can! Was the lid open because the amount trash in there prevented it from closing? If so, the city may wish for you to give them more money for another blue poly.

Strap that lid closed, strap it down. That way when the wind blows it around , you don't have run after it nor go close it! Strap it down.

To answer you question , I may produce 2 bags of trash a month. So having so much trash that I can't close it isn't the problem. I put a big rock on the top and pulled it close to the fence so it wouldn't take off in the wind this last week. I got up early this morning walked out the the alley in my pj's and place the "miracle of HAYS USA" in it's proper location. Removing the rock so not to harm the lil DARLING !!! I'm waiting for the trash truck to see if I have taking care of my new found CHILD properly..... and going to be in my pj's and robe !!!!! Colorado or BUST !!!

The carts would be handy to ice down a keg, just cut it down a bit and add ice
