There's storm chasers, and there's storm partys. This bunch was having a storm party. Real chasers learn to stay calm and aim their cameras at more than the inside of their cars.

I dont think I really ever seen the tornado, so good point Ratz!!!!

I'm sure they could, but it's not the death of a storm chasing tourist that troubles most serious chasers and spotters. It's that they will block roads stopping emergency traffic, and eventually one of these groups is going to block someones escape, or cause a wreck with their stupid driving.

I think that the Sherriff in Trego county would like too trhow a few storm partiers in jail

Yeah, he's no fan of them. One time there were about 30 vehicles blocking a road in Trego Co. when the sheriff was trying to get through and couldn't. I've seen them zip in and out of traffic to get past the legit spotters and chasers in heavy rain. I expect that'll cause a pile up sometime.

That was really good footage. I can't believe how quiet they stayed (aside from the F-bomb they threw out in the middle!) I wouldn't have been able to stay that quiet. Wonder how much damage those homes had.

That was professional quality footage. The only mistake I saw is he went way to close at first then realized he better get the hell back.

Word is this area could experience very severe storms with large destructive tornados after 3:00 today.

(keep in mind I'm not in western ks any more!)

On my way back from Salina this afternoon I was able to observe a tremendous wall cloud that luckily for me did not drop out a tornado. It would have been right on top of me if it had. Then the rain to the west of it was so heavy that I couldn't see more than maybe 30 feet ahead of me. Traffic on I-70 actaully stopped because of the poor visibility. Quite a trip !!!

west of wakeeney.....Had one dude come into the shop, scared as hell. I had to run thru it, but didnt get touched. My truck is hammered.

"I got off I-70 a mile later at Quinter to check radar on the stuff to my south. I noticed the 2 T-Warned cells I’d previously seen to the south now with pronounced hooks, the nearest now with confirmed tornado near Ness City, moving NE at 42 mph. I hopped back on I-70 and exited at Ellis, heading south on 247(?) and setting up about 5 miles south of town. The storm approached and inflow winds were screaming, easily over 60 mph. Not long after I saw a tornado caught in the glow of a powerflash.

After getting blocked by someone playing traffic cop and with it getting dark, I headed into Hays to the sound of tornado sirens, a nice musical encore for a memorable day. I’ll post stills & video after the chasing is done."
