When is the better date for a 67601 Picnic?

The park shelters will likely be available on Dec 25th. This month I'm not sure. Both graduation weekend and Memorial weekend could be busy in the parks, and I'll have to be gone at least one day of Memorial weekend.

The 31st is the weekend after Memorial weekend. By the voting, so far, looks like the 31st.

Just looked at a calendar. They backed Memorial day up one weekend from normal.

You just want it to be warm enough to bring out a couple of melons.

no, my melons are going to stay hidden. Cept for the big watermelon I swallowed and is now growing in my belly.

This reminds me, I got watermelons need planting today. LOL

I really need to work on getting the yard tilled up and soon! Am I too late to plant a garden? :-)

I just put my maters in this week. Got one on already, too.

Nope, I've waited till late May and still had watermelons reach maturity in August. Matter of fact, we are approaching prime planting time right now for most things other than cold weather crops like lettuce, and it's not even too late for that.

Talking about melons kinda goes with a 67601 picnic slumbergirl. Everyone had a great time slurping on that pair of big melons that got pulled out at the last park get together.

Yeah, I missed the picnic last year. I was hoping to meet a few of the members, but I was doing other things. No one posted pics though. Everyone was slurping on melons and I missed it??

Looking at the poll, the picnic is on May 31?

I got a feeling from a couple comments said in private that if it's intended to post photos in open forum there will be many who won't attend. I can understand why too the way things get at times in the forums. I also know there's some lurkers just waiting to see certain persons identities revealed.

there would be no photos posted unless we have permission, plain and simple.

That is good because I know of more than once where a persons photo was innocently posted and they had problems because someone saw it. And with all the windfarm and other conflicts, I'm sure there's some real curiosity as to who some posters are.

These forums have been suggested to be a place where cowards could be bigshots, and in some cases it may be true. But they can also be a place for someone to post their real feelings on issues without being fired from their jobs, or having their families harrassed or targetted because they dared speak their minds.

While they are growing, do you periodically take the time to turn the melons so there is less of a pronounced spot from being against the ground?

Oh no man, I use that spot to help indicate readiness. When the ground spot turns from green to a yellow white/butter yellow, or near that, it's probably time. The best melon ripeness indicators I use are the spot changing color and the tendrils nearest the melons stem drying up. "thumping" a melon like everyone does in the store doesn't tell me anything. If it's dark green with that light yellow ground spot it's ready.

I got the garden in this past week. Not a very big one, but I'm excited just the same.

So is the date for the get together May 31st?

How does one get over a dike?

Generally for an occasion like this, one walks over the dike to arrive and then stumbles over it to leave.

A rough idea of what kind of get together to have would be good. A drunken slobberfest, or a family dinner? And what to bring too.

I will bring the grill and burgers.
It will be a family atmosphere. Anyone who wishes to imbibe is welcome to bring their favorite swill. Please drink responsibly.

Cameras are welcome, but there will be limitations on what may be posted on the site for privacy reasons. This will be discussed in greater detail at the picnic.

It might start out like a family dinner and end up a slobberfest. I have seen that happen.
