| the money that the state gives to SHPTV is roughly 20% of our operating budget. This amounts to around $470,000 which in the scheme of things it a gants ass savings against the deficit. PLEASE SIGN!!!!!!! | |

| so where is all the money to fund everything supposed to come from? Taxes are killing us and no one wants to pay anymore because life is getting more expensive at the grocery store, the gas pump and in our utilities. on top of that, pay increases are non-existent for most folks? I know I don't have any more $$$ to spare. maybe it's time big bird contributed to your cause. maybe it's time public tv became commercial tv
it might also help feeling sympathetic to your cause if you would use his correct name and not do the typical name calling we see so often today
oh, and eventually, enough gnats asses can make a difference

| All TV is commercial TV unless you kick in extra dollars for "premium" TV. And I'm sick of paying to watch some rich bastard try to sell me things. If I could just convince the entire nation to drop cable TV for one month, there'd never be another stinking infomercial.
What's Brownbacks, stance on tobacco taxes? Am I back to ordinary guy with a bad habit or will tobacco users still be the incarnate of evil responsible for everything from bubonic plague and ugly puppies to the shuttle disaster as our last politically correct licker of the federal ass governor thought?
Will he still play Brokeback Mountain with us tobacco users and screw us to the breaking point like Obama and our last ball void governor, or will Brownback realize I'm a US citizen and not just the politically correct thing for leeches to suck dollars from too?

Where do you think the other 80% comes from...I'm sure a large portion is coming from Big Bird. Also, you can't call one person out on calling the governor a name and then make a statement saying Big Bird should pay....these seem to be in the same vein. Cutting Public Broadcasting and cutting the Kansas Arts, these are all the little gnats...In the end, they will cost jobs and creativity. I'm not saying you can't make cuts, because they have to come from somewhere, but its too bad that Brownback seems to be leaning a certain way.

| oh, I think there are a lot of things that can be cut. renovating the state capitol, excess vehicles held by the state, state employee cell phones, extending the service life of vehicles and machinery before replacement, reducing the amount of lighting used at night. thats just a start
but from my understanding with monies generated by sesame street sales, none of that is put back into pbs. however I will do more research and see what I can find out
I also do not see calling big bird by his name the same as disrepecting an elected official by altering their name.

I agree with Luke, Slickjay. Bastardization of Brownback's name doesn't help the cause. I signed the Petition. Hang in there.

| sesame street does fund some of their own stuff but not sure to what percentage yet. Sesame Street is known for its extensive merchandising, which includes many books, magazines, video/audio media, and toys. A percentage of the money from any Sesame Workshop product goes to help fund Sesame Street or its international co-productions.[3] Current licensors include Fisher-Price, Nakajima USA, Build-A-Bear Workshop (Build-An-Elmo, Build-A-Cookie Monster, And Build-A-Big Bird), Hasbro (Sesame Street Monopoly), Wooly Willy, Betty Crocker (Elmo Fruit Snacks), C&D Visionary (air freshners) and Children's Apparel Network. Former licences include Applause, Child Dimension, Gibson Greetings, Gorham Fine China, Ideal Toys, Milton Bradley Company, Nintendo, Palisades Toys, Questor, Radio Shack, Tyco, and the Western Publishing Company. Creative Wonders (a partnership between ABC and Electronic Arts) produced Sesame Street software for the Macintosh, since at least 1995 and on the PC since 1996; Atari produced Sesame Street games in 1983. Before going bankrupt, Palisades Toys was to release a line of deluxe series action figures, for adults, as part of Sesame Workshop's push to expand into retro products for teens and adults. Tickle Me Elmo was one of the fastest selling toys of the 1996 season. That product line was and still is one of the most successful products Mattel has ever launched. Both it and its most notable successor, TMX, have caused in-store fights. Elmo starred in a Christmas special that year, in which he wished every day of the year was Christmas.[23] After Fisher-Price recalled a large number of Sesame Street brand toys (among multiple licenses) in 2007, Sesame Workshop announced that they would independently inspect the products of all manufacturers. It went so far as to threaten withdrawing entirely from toy licensing, if it were not satisfied with the manufacturer's guarantees.[24] Its fiction books are published on five continents, primarily by Random House in North America. Over 18 million Sesame Street books and magazines were purchased in 2005.[3] The books often mention that children do not have to watch the show to benefit from its publications. http://www.bookrags.com/wiki/Sesame_Street | |

| the branded toys and other merchindise that Seasame Street and other kids shows on PBS does not come to any of the stations. It is used to create more shows and to pay the staff and writers of these shows. Sorry about the Brokeback thing but we all know how backwards Brownback is in his beliefs of science and arts. | |

| My fault, when I was commenting on Big Bird should chip in, I was thinking more along the lines of the actual PBS and CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) companies and what they send down to the locals like SHPTV. I bet Sesame Street doesn't chip into that very much.

| I think our govenment budgets are so over burdened by many things, such as. Farm subsidies and other corporate subsidies. Over charging by the medical industry. I can recall several times when high costs have been questioned by me and the reply I got was, "well, medicare will pay that much and we have to charge everyone equally by law " which tells me "we charge based on what we can gouge the government and therefore we gouge everyone equally". that was the reason given when ambulance services were consolidated by the county back in 1992ish. When asked why the cost of an ambulance run was going to increase from 65.00 to over 650.00, they guy running the meeting replied that "medicare will allow that much so we will charge everyone that much." Of course it was again, just doing it by what the law required, gotta be legal and all ya know.
Government grants are out of hand. For example, a Wichita school was given a 2 million dollar grant just this week to be used for science and engineering at one of their magnet schools. How is that fair to other schools that don't specialize like that one does. It is an elementary school for chritsake. How many other schools around could use a 2 million dollor infusion of cash? We are paying mrore than ever in taxes and people can't get it thru their thick skulls that we are going broke. Hell , we are going to bankrupt our grandkids and beyond. People need to pull their heads out of their asses and wake up to whats going on in the world and our economies. We are headed into a world of hurt and yet we worry about funding recreation and entertainment. Our roads, bridges, water systems, sewer systems are all againg and reaching a point of critical condition and we would rather spend money on sports complexes. Hell, a major sports team wants a new stadium and the taxpayers get burdened with that. Why? so we can watch a bunch of overpaid athletes beat the hell out of each other and throw temper tantrums while we get gouged for tickets, beer and hotdogs?
grrr....
remeber the saying about the straw that broke the camels back? I think ol' Clyde the camel is about to collapse
ok, ok, I am calm.....

| I appreciate your concern about losing funding, but I don't remember hearing you cry out when the state slashed funds several years in a row for special needs persons. Public media outlets were getting properly funded while persons with real needs were shouldering the burden of cost cutting. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the average PBS employee was paid considerably better than the average caregiver for special needs persons.
I hope you appreciate the budget cuts as much as we have.

| Are names like The Hillarcow, Pelousy, Chappy K, Rosie O'Pork, Hanoi Jane, Slick Willie, Obamalama, and Barney Fudgenfrank off limits too, or do we only have to respect republicans?
As far as PBS goes, I rarely watch it now with channels like Discovery, History, Nat Geo, etc. Maybe they could put all the infomercials on PBS and let them pay for it so I wouldn't be paying for cable TV that's not only interrupted by regular commercials to mess up my TV I already paid to see, but also practically taken over by friggin infomercials late at night when I actually have time to watch something.
The problems in this nation began when millionaires began striving to become billionaires. We were better off when the average guy on an average salary didn't think he needed a $40,000 vehicle, a big screen TV, and a wife and kids who want every other expensive toy those wannabe billionares have to sell. Color TV and cable used to be thought of in my family as luxury items. Now it nearly causes withdrawl when they can't get their shows or the internet is down.

It's childish regardless of political party. I think it's kind of a natural relief valve to joke about someone or something that disturbs you. Without jokes there is no possible way for me to think of someone like Pelosi or Rosie O and smile. And even jokes don't help with psychos like the Phelps clan.
