| I paid $2.48/gal. today in Goodland. It was $2.59/gal. in Denver, where it's usually more expensive because of the special blend that the State of Colorado requires. But it's still $2.69/gal. in Hays. WTF? | |

| Thanks NB. I had an Ellis station owner try to tell me once that stations only have a 1 or 2 cent mark up per gallon above wholesale. So is that your wholesale price after all taxes are paid? Other than income and sales tax of course.
Not to put you on the spot, but how many gallons do you sell in an average day? Most Hays stations probably have many times your sales.

Traditionally Goodland has been more expensive. And Denver, for sure.

| Ratz that is the quote we get from the gas delivery company, I have no idea on taxes etc. I don't know per gallon either at our place, but I can tell you that a full load of gas runs anywhere from 19k to 26k per load. There are many times we lose money, or make literally 2-4 cents per gallon on gas. | |

I'm sure there's highs and lows with the constant change in gas prices. I wouldn't want to run a place like yours. Any idea why a Hays station will be way higher than a Salina station owned by the same company?

| Im guessing either greedy people, or they had just purchased a load of gas that cost more than the current wholesale price. That happens when you order a load and the price drops shortly after you get it. | |

| It might help to understand prices if we knew where gas was shipped from to each site. But I still suspect Hays just likes the profit to be more. I always assumed the double, or even triple pricing of alot of things in gas stations/convienence stores was where the main profits come from. But that varies in each place too. Same with candy/pop machines. | |

| I came up with my own solution to high gas prices back in 2006. I parked my truck- which just sits in front of the house and rarely moves nowadays... and I commute in an old econobox that gets about 30mpg.
We're addicted to gasoline... it's just the way our lives have come to be structured. I'm no exception. But there's an awful lot of people commuting and getting groceries in their 3/4-ton pickup. That's their business... they can do what they want- but a fillup doesn't HAVE to hurt so much. I pay about $25/week for gas, and haven't had a car payment since 1997.

| There's alot of the big pickup mindset nowdays. I need 4 wheel but I didn't go with the biggest gas hog I could find. And there's alot of wasteful driving too. A guy at work said on his days off the wife has to drive to Hays "at least once a day to eat".
Ellis has a resturant and three places for pizza. The plaza has Subway and DQ. There's a grocery store here, limited though it may be. One trip to the Hays stores will keep the fridge and freezer full for a week or two. Why get in the big gas hog Dodge pickup and drive to Hays just to have supper? I might understand a combined day of shopping, a resturant, and maybe visit the Sternberg or go to a movie. But drive to Hays just to have supper?
Yeah, I make trips to Hays for one or two things sometimes myself, but it's things I gotta have and can't get at home. I'm more the type to go to Hays out of need and stop for supper while I'm there. We just have too much tendancy to think supplies will never end and our own gluttony is why the Gulf is becoming a toxic mess. It's also a major reason we get involved in so many global conflicts.

There's nothing wrong with a special night out for a nice fat steak. Even our penny pinching grandparents believed in a special night now and then. But would you do it all the time and twice in a day? Seems like a hastle to me, but I'm not a big fan of going to resturants anyways. I'm not a PETA fan, nor religious, but I don't see eating as the almost orgasmic experience our society has placed it at. Some are almost as bad in their gluttony as the Ancient Romans were. I'm one of those that ponders existence and universal purpose almost daily and I see it as a necessity that can be pleasant and I hope my value to the world is sufficient to be worth that which dies to sustain me. My philosophical moment of the day. Now a really good beer, that's another story.

Gas is $2.46 in Lawrence. :-) If Blackie got a DQ, Subway, and pizza place in Liebenthal the town would be twice as big. I think if I lived in one of the little dirt streets Cherman villages I might go to Hace alot too.

| This morning I went to the Circle K to get fuel which was $2.67 a gallon, got out of the car and realized i forgot my wallet. I went back to the house and got my wallet and then decided to get fuel at Casey's. It was a good thing I did because gas at Casey's is only $2.59. I ventured into Olathe and Quik Trip was at $2.67. I think there's a little price gouging going on around here. | |
