Site Traffic

I have noticed a severe lack of traffic on the site lately. I am wondering if it is even worth keeping the site running. Opinions?

precisely my point - there is 5-7 people online and no one has posted anything...

i don't know anymore i check a few times a say to see if there is anything new. And I do post some stuff I think is interesting and funny. it your baby if you want to pull the plug it up to you

Theres no shortage of lurkers here, I guess someone needs to stir up some shit with a controversial topic. How about wind farms?

We ran into a problem when the place got divided on the issue of being offended. Some won't come post because they are afraid someone will take their comments wrong, others have an attitude that they have some unheard of Constitutional right never to be offended. Some get tired of the drama queens, some aren't happy unless they are pissing someone off.

Some want a site where they can post about local happenings without someone having a negative thought and that doesn't seem to happen. Some want a happy little back patting fluff site where every other phrase is "You go girl" or "You're such a wonderful person". I've noticed the facebook community has a ton of that.

I think it might increase site use if there were different boards such as one for adult content where all the fights and unfriendly atmosphere could be contained and another that had very strict rules. I don't much care for a bunch of censorship and rules, but others would be happy if they had a board where insults and profanity weren't allowed at all.

I used to frequent a place where all the most controversial topics were in the members only area and you had to have a special password to enter. All other topics such as gardening, where to shop, local events, entertainment, day to day routine with your family, etc., were open to non-member general use.

Basically what that means is that if your topic is intended to stir shit, it must be in the special passworded area. You could discuss politics, windfarms or abortions in the open area, but any comment even remotely unfriendly got deleted.

In the passworded rooms only stupid crap like flooding the room with nonsense posts, hacking, illegal content, or something that would otherwise interfere with it's normal usage would be deleted, or reported. You go in a passworded room, you better expect to be offended.

I've had comments from both those who won't come in because they are afraid to say anything, and those who won't come in because they don't like any controversy. The only solution to that would be to have the family room open to all, and the passworded room that even current members would have to request the pass for.

Personally, I'd probably spend the most time in the passworded room so those who are offended by my lack of political correctness wouldn't have to see me unless we were talking about growing a watermelon, and I wouldn't have to worry if I stepped across the PC line.

Another forum I check on is much slower than it used to be also.
Their politics and religion area is something you have to opt in for. Similar to Ratz ideas.

I guess that I probably qualify as one of the lurkers however I think of myself as more of a voyeur, an obsessive observer of sordid or sensational subjects. Having lived out of the area for several years I enjoy reading about local controversial issues however don't have much to say about them. As for my political stands I am so in the minority that I generally keep them to myself. I don't mind being insulted just would hate to be arrested. Doesn't stop me from being interested in others opinions.

It definetly is gonna happen,even more of them coming in the future when a new high voltage line is built,running through the cowndy.

My guess is all the less controversial types are busy on places like facebook. Alot of blogs these days too on any subject. Might just be there's chatroom/message board overload. Every place I was ever on usually had more lurkers than posters though.

there are a plethora of factors contributing to the declining site traffic. offensive posting is probably the least of which.

Don't forget the hearts, or drinks, or whatever you're supposed to return. Or find out what someone says about you that you can only read if you get enough points by visiting spammers and signing up for their crap.

One of my sisters does farmville. Last I saw she was spreading fertilizer on everyone. A natural talent in her case.

Yes, site traffic has been up the past few days, thank you.

This place is both more fun and educational to me. I only got on facebook to keep a link with family, and friends. It is good for that.

I will admit I once came on here once or twice a day now it is just a few times a month. for me theres not really much interest for me except for local happenings or to find out about a police chase/ wreck/ robbery. other then that there is alot of trash within every topic that is realy a waste of my time to sit and read. I prefer things straight to the point and not all the little phone tag type of posts within the topics. So if you want to pull the plug it is up to you, after all it may free up alot of time that you could spend elsewhere. but to spice things up mikecc could be allowed back on, he was always good for a laugh or two.

No he wasnt, he was an asshole and he ran alot of people off.

Actually I still frequent about 6 boards ( 2 really HUGE ones and 4 smaller ones) and every, single one of them is way down on traffic/posting. The general consensus on all of them is that Twitter & Facebook are killing off the message board.

At any rate, I agree with what Ratz said. There were people that came here for general community discussion and were run off by the drama etc. Having a family section and a wild west section is a good idea I think.

I dont twitter and I do have facebook but its to keep in touch with family.
