Sewing Machines

I'm looking at buying a sewing machine to replace the relic that was my mothers. I'm looking at 2 fairly inexpensive Singer Models and two fairly inexpensive Brother models. Do any of you have a preference? Maybe one of you happen to own one of the following-

Singer 3116 Simple
Singer 2263 Simple

Brother xl2600i
Brother lx2125

I basically just need to be able to do curtains, small repairs, and halloween costumes, nothing fancy.

I don;'t own any of them but I'm all in favor of you getting any of the above. Do you cook and clean house too?

I've always had a preference for Singers. Brother may be as good, I don't know.

I don't really pay much attention since my 1920's vintage Singer treadle still works great. No need for me to upgrade yet.
