I am really getting into this gardening thing......it's my new fetish :)

any advice?? I just bought my first miracle grow feeder hose thingy AND a 3 pronged soil tester-lots of plants in my garden as of yesterday,have yet to plant a few seeds that could go in by seed,like corn.
It's my 1st garden-I'm excited!Hope I don't kill everything

Also,my first litter(and last)of kitties-I can't wait,mamas sides are getting punched out and I laugh when I see it,I know how it feels she's 46 days along,anyone up for a kitty shower-

Bottom line I'm happy and thought I'd just share and give you guys a chuckle

Hey what should I plant, Thanks to Justoo I got my garden tilled, BUT havent planted yet...... I want to have a garden but dont know what I can still plant???

Right now you can plant radishes, green beans thingslike that. Tomato and cukes grow best if you buy the actual plant and start from there but its too early for those yet.

So far we've planted radishes, potatoes, green onions, large onions, beets, peas, green beans & cabbage.

No it's not. I have tomato plants out. If a late frost is predicted just cover them up.

I've had tomatoes out for over a week, as well as bell and jalapeno peppers, onions, green beans, snow peas, spinach, and a couple of different lettuces we planted too late. So far, so good with all this rain we've gotten. I was worried about the hail we got a couple of days ago, but the plants survived just fine.

Hail won't stop a tomato. The old timers used to whip tomato plants claiming they bloom more after a beating.

"Brooming " a tomato plant should be done when it has blooms. It spreads the pollen which creates fruit.

I had heard that years ago, but never tried it. I guess the hail did it for me, this year!

Ok let me rephrase, for me its too early considering I have 25 tomato plants and 15 cucumber plants. I'll just leave them inside for a bit longer. I did however plant peppers and leaf lettuce today along with pumpkins and squash and zucchini.

25 tomato plants? You are ambitious L2C.

Yeah jess, that's a planting guide for the KC area but a pretty good guide for here too. In parts of the winter KC and here can differ alot on temps, but not much now. Except KC is getting BIG rains and we'll have to water more.

The pollination thing with whipping tomato plants makes sense. Maybe it's just coincidence, but it always seemed to me like mom's tomato plants would bloom way more after either hail or her yardstick put a whippin on em. I used to watch her whip those plants and she always had a look of violent pleasure on her face and authority in the swings. She seemed to enjoy it almost as much as whipping us.

25 tomato plants is a lot of tomatoes

Maybe, as well as loving to cook, she loves to can. Wish I had the patience to learn to do that.

Oh lord no, no canning for me I dont have the time or patience for that either Suzy. We give alot of summer produce to family and friends because by August we are usually drowning in tomatoes and cukes.

I guess I can get my produce from you then .I'm retired and don't have time to garden anymore.
