| Ok Im starting to take an issue with how the media etc are handling these warning situations. Here in Hays on Friday and again today the sirens were going off and the police were out going through the streets warning of imminent danger. OK
THEN we have those jokers on channel 11 KAKE going "I dont see much reason for a tornado warning for Ellis county. Im seeing little to no rotation."
Damnit which is it? It's almost gotten to the point that Im going to start to just blow the sirens and stuff off anymore.

| my personal opinion - stick with the local warnings. The people at the news stations are going strictly by what they see on radar and when people call it in to them to report funnell clouds. | |

| If you have a scanner that is the best way to know what to do, I was listening to mine the other night and the Highway Patrol and Sherriff were staying more on the money about what was going on and where the storm was moving. I would hear them say it is so many miles SE of a certain place and then about 5 min later the NEWS was saying they see it could be in that location. So I would say the ones that are out there and can see it are the ones to listen to. | |

| At least you know the sirens work. In many cases of tornado deaths there were malfunctioning sirens. | |

| Crap, Hugo MN had a tornado that took three story homes clear down to the foundations. Do you go to CS Estates for a shelter NB? I remember it being damp and dirty when we went there years ago. | |

| yeah thats the closest shelter. It isn't bad, but there is no plumbing which doesnt make sense to me. We were there almost 3 hrs friday night and 2 hours today - had to take my daughter outside IN the storm to pee. | |

| Yeah, I recall it was a bare bones shelter. It was just a concrete hole without so much as a chair when I lived in CS West (Cedar Ridge). No place to cool a beer or drain used beer. Maybe you should take two buckets down there marked "Men" and "Women". If they don't get the hint they would after the buckets ferment for a few days. | |

| We got annoyed at sirens sounding in Ellis years back due to malfunctions. But after seeing the death tolls in some places where sirens failed, I think I'd rather hear them than not. | |

Yea, we don't sit on the couches, not much we can do about the carpet except try and limit contact. As far as the sirens, yea, they are annoying, and they instill a sense of panic on "some" people *cough* NB *cough* But, are you willing to risk your life and the lives of you children and pets on it? Someone said 1/5000, but if you guess wrong you don't lose a dollar you lose your life. People watch scenes like Greensburg from last year on TV and it seems sureal, it's on the TV. I watch people come to the shelter and they are annoyed. They do not bring anything with them, no water, no food, none of thier important documents. They come in shorts and sandals and tank tops. If your house/trailer/apartment takes a direct hit, it's all gone, there will be debris everywhere, your clothes are hanging in trees 4 miles away. I have a new hobby, watching the radar and the weather channel lol.

| Since when do we come to trust the weather report coming from Wichita. For as long as i can remember, the sirens in Hayce indicate it's time to go to the front porch and look to the sky. (beer in hand is optional) | |

| I didn't even hear the sirens on Friday, my daughter called us to tell us to get downstairs. We heard them last night though. We couldn't even hear them while in the basement. I am glad that we have them. I am more excited that we have a basement. :-) | |

I have a new hobby, watching the radar and the weather channel lol. I can about imagine what's been on that furniture and carpets. You'd think the weather service would suggest taking things to the shelters like they do when it's a hurricane or blizzard. I asked a guy who barely escaped an F3 once if he needed medical help or anything else. He said Yeah, clean underwear and all the toilet paper you got.

| I remember being out at a trailer park one night and the weather got very wicked in a matter of a few minutes. We went in to check the local radio and the TV channels. There was a game on the radio and nothing important on the TV. I appreciate the local storm chasers and other immediate media reaction that we have now.
Edited for clarification that this happened about 20 years ago...
