I looked at their site and have come to the conclusion that it is not going to be an open forum. I have to agree with Ms Steinem, it is going to be used to manipulate as many folks as possible. Oh yes, the good ol boy network is alive and strong and always working to keep their pockets full. Sheep are meant to be shorn and they see the population as sheep here to benefit them. I think I will stay here in what i see as a forum for free thinkers

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the staff At HDN for putting together a great looking site.
I would also like to wish them the best of luck. I really do hope that at least part of the community embraces them. More than one place to discuss your community is a great thing to have.

I would also like to thank them for not deleting the post that links to this site. It shows that they are a fair and open minded site.

I hope that others will also see the My Town forum not as a competition to 67601, but as an alternative site that accents and ultimately improves our community.

On a side note: I also wonder if they will be so willing to write an article that states how quickly this site ressurrected. Will they make an attempt to contact admin for her thoughts? Do they consider they rapid regrowth of this site as newsworthy as the collapse of they previous site? The answer to this will determine whether I believe they were gloating on the demise or merely reporting the news.
Time will tell.

The info on what the community feels is important is at their finger tips.

Will they embace this info that they themselves have gathered?

Will they write a story on what the people want to know?

Will they choose to ignore a story that may not benefit them?

I think that they could write a nice story that would actually benefit both sites.
They could tell everybody how lucky the community is to have people that really do care about the community as well as each other. There is not just one story in here, but a series of stories to be told. But I anticipate only one story... at the most.

The newspapers are going to have to adapt or die. They really hate that, but it is the reality they face.

There are some defiante advantages to the web over a printed paper. It doesn't require near as many trees to do a website, there is virtually no waste going to the landfill and it is much faster than a printing schedule.

kinda hard to take the box scores to the crapper with you if it isn't in paper form...unless you print it off the computer or have wirless laptop .

I just went over to the HDN forum to see what all the talk was about. Looks like they already have "drama" going on. That board is not friendly user like NB said. I mean it's not a total terrible place, just not like "home".

That drama might boost their numbers?

If you look at their stats page you will see that the thread that gets the most hits is still 67601. At 680 hits the next closest has 509.

In old chatroom days, a favorite trick of a PO'd user was to flood the room, or message board with things like gigantic text, huge photos, or nonsense posting made over and over till it was too much for the site to handle, or too much for other users to put up with. It was a common way to push out posts someone didn't like, or crash the room.

Its enabled here as well, I know because Ive went back to edit a typo and got stopped.
