| I let John Schmeidler put a sign in my yard. Not because i agree with him necessarily but because he asked. Informed and educated voters make the best voters, and part of that process is knowing who the candidates are and what they stand for. it begins with a sign, you have to do the rest of the legwork yourself. thats the cool thing about democracy. well sir, i saw you from my window as thats where my computer is, please don't stifle free speech and the encouragement of voting again, i find it most unpatriotic. If any other candidate wishes to place a sign in my yard you may. feel free to leave some cards like mr schmeidler did and i'll hand them out as well. I'm in a high traffic zone here on Cathedral.... | |

| Reminds me of when I lived in Chicago. The Cook County sheriff at the time was allowing, if not encouraging, his patrol deputies to steal yard signs that supported his opponent while they were on the clock. One of the TV stations caught them on tape. They were all prosecuted and fined. | |

Staab had already lost my vote by virtue of her connections, but these unethical "tricks" as spelled out by the article are purely pathetic. In their attempt to smear the current election commissioner they made themselves look childish. These folks are transparent in their need to dominate the politics of Hays. I'm casting my vote for Alberta Klaus. Dennis Pfannenstiel has lost my vote by the same means. Clean these people out.

Would you please elaborate a bit more on this. In a PM if you're not comfortable saying something openly. City commissioners looking out for their own interests and the interests of their good ol' boy friends rather than the community as a whole. For the most part, it's been that way in Hays since I can remember. There have been some exceptions, but not many. The real problem is that it's like that everywhere and at every level of government. The level of obvious corruption on the Topeka City Council makes Hays look like amateur hour. Move that up to the state level and it multiplies exponentially. The influence of lobbyists in D.C. is one of the main reasons the country is in the economic mess it's in. They get away with it because 80% of the people don't bother to vote and 80% of the people who do vote have their heads up their asses. Unless we, the voters, wake up and elect statesmen instead of henchmen at every level of government, it won't change.

They have an agenda and supporters ( lobbyists) who want to get one or all of them elected to carryout their wants and needs. Hell, all three are totally against the windfarm project and that the only true reason their running for county commissioner.

...and that right there is the reason to vote for them. I believe if windfarms are going to be placed near this city it should not be up to the few who benefit from it financially. It should be up to the town that will be residing right under them. How dare the few ranchers who will be profiting impact and assault our lives with towers this close to town.

Amen. The Hadley project is an insane idea which is being pushed through by the very guy that stands to profit from it, the owner. Come on, the Eddy clinic is what, one eighth the cost and right across from the court house..... perfect for county offices.....and has plenty of space. Can you people not see what is going on?.If you do not understand the strings being pulled to make a few businessmen in this town richer...... for the love of God, get educated!!!!!You're the ones that will have to pay the millions for the Hadley Center "county offices". The Eddy clinic is only $800,000. It's the only thing that makes since. This town is expensive enough with it's real estate. Don't increase your taxes by voting in the guys that are pushing this through.

Do you live in Hays, or money town by Yocemento? Maybe it's a matter of opinion, by I didn't figure they'd look that big and ominous from Hays. Are those towers kind of like music where if you like what you're hearing full volume is ok, but if you hate it a whisper over the speakers is maddening? Not trying to argue here because I don't like everything I'm seeing with the windfarm, but I just don't see the Yocemento area as right above town.

Do you live in Hays, or money town by Yocemento? I live in Hays. I support the people who have worked hard to have a nice home out there. They stand to lose a lot of property value over this. It was all planned out without consideration of how it will impact their lives. It will, in fact, be close enough to drown out the stars at nite to the west. And I haven't heard whether there's any decommission clause should they abandon these 10 years from now. Will it cost the county a million to take each down? Can they prove it will not be visible to Hays? I believe it will be visible to us as it lines up south towards Antonino. Why can't this be done where there is no town within 30 miles, like Salina? Dennis Pfannenstiel is one of the commissioners that has been trying to push this through without consulting the community.

You have got to be kidding. Do you honestly believe any one of these three would have run otherwise? I believe it was a combination of things that got these people to run for office. First, and I believe foremost, is the issue of zoning. Dennis and Vernon decided we are going to have zoning. A very large group of people objected. Rather than listening to their constituents, Dennis and Vernon decided to shove it through. Then came the wind farm. When it came time to listen to the people there were so many objecting that they had to change the venue in order to accommodate those who did not wish to have it in the proposed location. Rather than listening to their constituents, Dennis and Vernon decided to shove it through. Next came the Hadley proposal. The taxpayers again objected to the extravagant cost associated with this project and pointed out that there were more cost-effective ways to accomplish this. Others pointed out that that amount of money may well be spent on other projects that would have the same net result. For example building a new jail and dispatch center. Rather than listening to their constituents, Dennis and Vernon decided to shove it through. I believe that these guys are tired of Dennis and Vernon deciding to shove it through.
