2008 Year of the Frog: A Kansas Perspective - Engel Education Center - Sternberg Museum of Natural History - 3000 Sternberg Drive - 7-9 pm - 785-628-5502 - Across the globe, amphibians are disappearing at an alarming rate. Thus, to better understand this conservation crisis and raise public awareness, concerned scientists have designated 2008 as the 'Year of the Frog.' You are invited to join Curtis Schmidt, Associate Curator of Herpetology, as he details the causes of amphibian declines and discusses the value of amphibians as bio-indicators, as well as introduce the frog and toad species that call Kansas home. Many of the frog and toad species that inhabit Kansas will be on display. The program is free of charge…donations appreciated!

Hays Area Children's Center 20th Annual Rope 'Em Ride Bika-A-Thon - 94 Lewis Dr – 8 am-5 pm - 785-625-3257 - Join us for this one-day energetic extravaganza featuring a 5-100 mile bicycle ride showcasing the historical cathedrals in the area. Serious and recreational cyclists come from across the state to participate. All proceeds from the event directly benefit the children and families served through HACC. Along the bicycle route are numerous “SAG” stops, which are rest stops containing, food and water. Cyclists are served lunch, as well as breakfast and dinner (included with registration fee). A t-shirt is also provided with your registration. Anyone can participate and walk-in registrations are accepted.

The ASKFTC now playing at local ponds, streams, creeks, and water-filled road-side ditches near year!
