| I have bought stuff from this guy and he has always treated me fair. He's a great guy with a funny sense of humor. I doubt you would understand his shipping policy...try reading it...that's him.
He is just trying to push the turds down the tunnel. Why knock a man trying to make a living?

Yep you better get them facts right, just like in dances with wolfs, you can sit there and piss your pants then shoot yourself in the head. Great memories of Hays. Looks like someone has a sense of humor. Someone else needs to get one. Everything is not straight facts, by the way when you wipe your ass do you push the toilet paper towards your balls or do you pull it up towards you brain ? I think it's funny as hell, like when the Germans bombed pearl harbor !

| Show me a "real" man that's pregnant and I'll get a sense of humor about a local man dealing in historical artifacts that doesn't know history. Buyers of antiques spend a premium to obtain things used by someone famous. I used to sell antiques and while I might tell jokes to a customer that I was sure would know I was joking, I never spun yarns for strangers.
Yes, I know they say buyer beware, but antique dealers who tell wild tales just to make a sale and dealers who just don't know what they are talking about are irritating to the collector who is also a historian. History is hard enough to document as is, and I have to wonder just how many items have been connected to famous persons, or places just because of lies or misinformation. I know for a fact that certain events and places are falsely accounted in local history books and I also know bullshitters and story tellers are largely responsible for it. But now it's in print and most who read it won't know the difference.
And yeah, the BS representation of Fort Hays in Dances With Wolves pissed me off.

| Wow sounds like you work at the fort or the muesum. You are so presise on everything. Givin that you know all the facts you should maybe get a job on the trolley where the facts are like air, they come and they go. The truth always gets turned one way or the other, seems to suit the teller. History books are full of mistakes from the truth. I don't see anything wrong with the guy's ad. It just adds some off color to a item. Now I know that you think that story telling is wrong, but bottomline funny is funny. | |

| No, I don't work at the fort, or museum. I suppose you're right. Everyone has a right to make their profession look like a joke. I'm afraid I never understood why a car dealer telling you that a beat up lemon was only driven by an old lady to church is a crook, but an antique dealer can invent any story they want. Sorry, but I've seen way too many dealers nowdays selling reproduction crap they bought out of catalogs, and far too many buyers that paid premium prices for misrepresented junk. I've heard the manure too many times about how something is an "estate sale find" when it was bought ten years ago from Walmart. To a degree I agree with buyer beware, but I feel it's the duty of every businessman to be as honest as possible about his product. And if it weren't for BS story tellers the historical record would be far more accurate. I fully understand it may have been a comment meant in humor, or maybe just an honest mistake. Even the best dealer can make a misquote accidentally, and I've shopped in that store and have no problems with them. But I just can't help but picture some buyer who doesn't know the difference between Cody and Hickock looking like a dumbass when they try to pass this off as something they think might be from 1860's Hays that "Wild Bill Cody" might have put his gun on. Nothing personal, just my sense of doing honest business. | |

| I don't get too shook up about Dances with Wolves, it was a fictitious story. I do like the movie and was amused by the Ft Hays representation. I do know that the publicity that it generated for the Fort increased the tourism for the Fort and helped make Hays a tourist spot. | |

Just think how many tourists might come to see the fort if they saw an accurate representation of how big and important it really was. If the Ellis rail yards in their heyday were portrayed in a movie as a one room shack ran by a buck toothed idiot named Chrysler I'd consider that an insult. Wouldn't you? I just get tired of Kansas being known as the the home of Fred Phelps, wheat, idiots that can't understand evolution, and a ball of twine.

Thing is life is so short one day you are telling all the good stories for you are the expert, and then the next you have a cough and they tell you have a spot on your lung. I have just had a few good people I know going through this and they would call zilla a big joke, he lives in his own world, they want to laugh and have a few good days even if is comes from ebay. He comes off as a expert but at what ? Who really cares what is said in a ebay ad ? It looks like david letterman on a corn flake..........now there you go. You are going to down grade that for corn flakes are a profession that they are making fun of.........lighten up , live not for being the bully ! Just don't like the tone and now I have done my bitching I will leave this drop !

| well, it is a pretty big stretch to claim that wild bill cody might have laid his gun on this case. I am quite fond of the heritage of the history of this area and I think making a story about something that never happened like this is a bit unethical, especially when the name is so screwed up like this is laughable, unethical, but quite laughable. It is typical of the garbage that ebay has become.....say whatever ya have to to make a buck.
I have known ratzilla for a long long time and I would have to say he knows what he is talking about. And as for a spot on the lung, I'm not even going to go there. I've had more than my share of that type of issue to deal with.

Just don't like the tone and now I have done my bitching I will leave this drop ! Tell me what I've bragged about. I talked about preserving history correctly and being honest. I'd like to see the history of my home town taken as a thing to show pride in. Why is that a problem? As to the spot on the lung thing, been there, done that. My lungs are crap and I probably won't live to retirement age so maybe you should be the one who keeps your judgemental opinions to yourself. By the way. If ebay is only about idiots selling, and joking about things like Lettermans face in a cornflake, why is anyone selling antiques on it? Especially such a rare item as a display case that had such a historical figure as "Wild Bill Cody" lay his gun on it 20 or more years before the case was even built. I'd wager that if someone really had a display case from the Cody/Hickock days out of a Hays store, they'd never put it on ebay for a starting price of $5.00 Yeah I know, I have no sense of humor.

| I've bought a lot of stuff off of eBay and anyone with half a brain can see the dealer was not making a statement declaring that "Wild Bill Cody" really laid his gun on this. The guy was joking and I would imagine anyone who is a real Buffalo Bill or Hickock fan would not buy the piece based on this statement.
If he was trying to sell it based on history he would have included a lot more detail and not started the price so low.
To me, eBay is a joke. Try getting them to resolve a problem. Also, they focus on getting listings rather than selling. They run thier business like a dictatorship and could give a crap about the sellers. Their customer service sucks.
Their fees are too high. Look at the number of auctions completed verus the number that don't receive any bids. I don't know what their success rate on sales is, percentage wise, but it has to be low.

If he was trying to sell it based on history he would have included a lot more detail and not started the price so low. If you think everyone on ebay is sharp enough to know the difference, you don't know ebay buyers very well. I know a woman who could see this and think "Wow!! Wild Bill Cody. My husband would really like to own this." My issue here isn't the buyers who know Cody and Hickock history. It's the poor history lesson given to all who don't. There's lines in a local history book where the author was trying to inject a little humor, or just glorify history a touch. The author knew it was wrong, I know, and many others do. But the book is now widely accepted as a factual account, when alot of the stories are over glorified, or never happened at all. And now the fewer old timers there are left to counter it, the more likely new generations will think it all straight fact. The author did fine work on researching many things, but just invented history when the answer was unknown. Maybe the sour taste that book left me with influences my thoughts here. In this case the seller on ebay isn't some airheaded old lady who normally sells reproduction prints and fake carnival glass. This is someone who normally seems like a serious dealer running an antique shop that's RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE ELLIS COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. You get my point here? Like I said, I have no personal issue with this dealer and have bought from their store. But it's kind of like if I said I had a desk bought at an auction in Dodge City that maybe old Matt Dillon himself used. It just sounds dumb.
