| Olive Garden in Hays? Sorry, it ain't happening. Here's a suggestion: Get on a website like cooks.com or foodnetwork.com, find a recipe and make your own. It's a helluva a lot less expensive and you can make it exactly the way you and your family like it. Go to your favorite dispenser of adult beverages, pick up a bottle of good wine for less than OG charges for a single glass, and if the food's not perfect, nobody will care. Or there's always Napoli's. Or Ragu. From what I've heard, there's not much difference. | |

My guess would be something along the line of Houlihan's, T.G.I. Friday's or Chili's. I know they're just Applebee's with a different paint job, but they all like expansion into markets where Applebee's has done fairly well. Just like Wendy's and Burger King will pop up where McDonald's is doing well. Saves on market research.

Anyway I figured this was bogus, but I keep on hearing it so I thought Id ask.

| My sources tell me there is another mexican restaurant going in. All i can say is go figure, Hays doesn't have enough mexican restaurants already. I'm starting to realize that Gardner is kind of like Hays with its eating establishments. We have the typical choices of Mexican and pizza. There is another pizza place that opened up last week to go along with Pizza Hut, Gambino's, and Domino's. This place is called Johnny Breschi's (sp). I ate at one in Olathe but i thought it was a little pricey and it didn't taste any different that pizza hut. | |

That rumor has floated around Hays for a lot of years. Giant corporations don't put in restaurants just because people in a small town think it would do well. They have years of research and history to help them decide where they are going to expand. For example, the three Darden restaurants in Topeka (Red Lobster, Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse) all do very well, especially considering that they are all basically in the same location in front of the mall. However, I doubt seriously if they have any plans to put a Seasons 52 or a Capital Grille in Topeka, even though they're all part of the same company.

| When I was a kid We went to A&W or maybe Dan's Cafe. On rare occasion we went to Al's Chickenette. On very special occasions we might go to the Ramada or another resturant. For dessert or a summer treat we'd hit Dairy Queen or Tastee Freeze. When I was alone I might go to Bike's for the cheap burger and fries. There was also the Varsity and the Drive In Theater.
If we had pizza it was usually made at home. If we had fish it was because we'd gone fishing. If we had BBQ it was usually on the home grill. We never seemed to get bored with that.
Nowdays it seems so many are in a perpetual search for a new place to stuff their face. Makes me wonder when the vomitoriums will come back in favor.
Ok family, here's the plan.... First we hit the new Cambodian cafe with a Chinese cook trained by Tibetan Monks. Then we go try that new Argentina steak house. Then we get some secret recipe Costa Rican Chicken. Then the Siberian crab shack. And then we have a Chicago special deep dish New York style pizza, and finish up with the House of cakes. Everybody got your gagging sticks?
