| You need to quit driving when all the old farts are out. I go to Hays at night after 8:00 and don't see those things. | |

| I've seen all kids of crazy driving in Hays ranging from going way too slow to people that think they are at Indy. I have seen people sit partway thru a green light because they were too busy not paying attention to the lights, I have seen people cut back into my lane because they were ina hurry to get to the next turn right and instead of just flowing with traffic they have to weave thru it. I have seen people cross three lanes to make their turn to walmart because again, they weren't paying attention. I have seen people blow thru a red light and thru stop signs. Yes , you are definately taking your life in your hands on the streets of Hays. | |

| I don't mind if someone is driving slow in the right lane. But it annoys me a little when someone is also driving slow in the left lane. Driving behavior that pushes me toward anger is when someone is driving negligently due to talking on their cellphone, trying to do both at the same time. It happens . . . . a lot! I'd bet that lower levels of alcohol intoxication are less of an impediment to driving. | |

I think I saw an article a few months ago that claimed to prove just that. Link that was easy to find - Quote :
- The study found that compared with undistracted drivers:
* Motorists who talked on either handheld or hands-free cell phones drove slightly slower, were 9 percent slower to hit the brakes, displayed 24 percent more variation in following distance as their attention switched between driving and conversing, were 19 percent slower to resume normal speed after braking and were more likely to crash. Three study participants rear-ended the pace car. All were talking on cell phones. None were drunk. * Drivers drunk at the 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level drove a bit more slowly than both undistracted drivers and drivers using cell phones, yet more aggressively. They followed the pace car more closely, were twice as likely to brake only four seconds before a collision would have occurred, and hit their brakes with 23 percent more force. “Neither accident rates, nor reaction times to vehicles braking in front of the participant, nor recovery of lost speed following braking differed significantly” from undistracted drivers, the researchers write.

| The last time I had a driver in Hays cause me trouble was an out of state vehicle on the two lane road running along the East side of Vine north of 27th. I was stopped at a stop sign waiting for another driver to pass so I could turn and the asswipe behind me just whipped around me on the right side. Other than that I'ver had very little trouble after dark. Now during the day when the geezers are crawling like snails, and the school kids are darting around like they're in a video game it's not as good. And then there's the nervous mommies..... It's mainly due to the HUGE number of people in this town who insist on changing lanes at intersections. | |

| Hell when i lived in Hays I always bitched about the people doing the right turn on a red light at 43rd and Vine. It seems as if those people doing the right hand turn on Vine always seem to do it when I was coming down Vine. I wanted to ram those people when they did it to me. | |

| I am in my 30's and i drive slow on purpose.....mainly to tick all these cell phone drivers off, I have also been known to sit at a green light and wait for it to turn yellow to go, mainly for the same reason. to tick people off. my favorite thing to do is drive in both lanes it is funny as heck watching the fools in my rear view cussing up a storm yelling pick a lane already. | |

| Hays is tame compared to Johnson County, where people who have larger vehicles think they are more important than you, so everyone should just get the hell out of their way. It even shows on I-70. When a car comes like a bat out of hell and blows by you like you're standing still when you're actually doing 77, you can bet they're from Johnson County. | |

BIG FAT WORD to this! A month ago I was on my way to KC and was on the turnpike DRIVING THE SPEEDLIMIT mind you, and some dumb woman in an SUV rode my ass flashing her lights swearing cause I wouldnt speed up enough to let her pass. Sure enough once she got around me she had Johnson County plates.

I have learned living here that Johnson County folk here think that they are the kings of Kansas and you must bow down to them and move out of their way. I think one of the worst places in Johnson County to drive is I-35. I still love to piss these drivers off here, i still have Ellis county plates on my car so im sure they are probably thinking go back to Western Kansas but what they don't know is i'm here and they better get use to it.

| Of all the places I've lived, Kansas has the best drivers IMO. People in Southern Appalachia do pretty well until it snows... then they have no idea what they're doing. And they have a tendency to road-rage... but that's just the local culture.
Houston traffic was fuking insane. Everyday traffic was 75mph in a 55 zone with less than a car length in between- just TRY backing off to a sane distance... three assholes will immediately cut in front of you. I've never been intimidated by traffic since living in Houston for a while.
Colorado drivers weren't too bad if the weather was ok... kinda aggressive, as most urbanites are. But no major problems IMO until it snowed. THEN it became abundantly clear just how many Californians and assorted out-of-towners live along the front range. Not only did these people have no idea how to drive on snow/ice- they didn't even have the sense to slow down.
Despite lots of bitching that I heard from the locals, my only complaint about Hays drivers was the old people. Things will be moving along nicely, then suddenly you come upon a Buick doing 25mph... with no real interest in getting anywhere. But it's only 3 or 4 miles across town... so who cares? Ya'll do pretty well in the snow, and there are no hills (to speak of) to complicate things.
And again unlike the locals, I've got no major complaints about Wichita drivers. Pretty much the same as Hays drivers but a little more urban and not as many old people.

Damn, hope he doesn't drive like he runs an RC. I think in rural areas the crash rate is about 25% inexperience, 25% too old, and 50% stupidity. In urban areas and on interstate I'd say the stupidity factor goes way up. Inexperienced kids and out of staters, especially from the south or far west, are horrible on ice. The old fart factor goes down on icy roads because they're afraid to even walk out to their car.

MOM.... he's pickin' on me agin. You aren't quite in that category yet. Still plenty of crazy 50 to 60 year olds out on the ice. But the 70 to 90 crowd starts worrying about busting a hip on the way to the car so alot of them just ferment in a recliner till it thaws.
