| Emporia State matched their season low in shooting percentage with a 13 of 47 effort from the field in a 94-47 loss at #15 Ft. Hays State on Sunday afternoon. Tim Niles was the only Hornet in double figures finishing with 14 points. ESU scored the first points of the game on a Matt Nelson lay-up off the opening tip. After an Orrin Greer three pointer, the Hornets tied it on a Lamar Wilbern free throw. FHSU then scored the next ten points to go up 13-3 with 13:17 left in the half. A 12-0 run gave the Tigers a 20 point lead at the 2:57 mark and ESU would not get within 20 the rest of the game. The two teams will meet again on Friday night in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. Tip-off from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City is set for 6 p.m. NOTES: This was the worst loss ever for a David Moe coached team and the largest margin in an ESU loss since a 102-50 set back at Kansas in 1997-98. | Central Missouri State and Midwestern State both lost this past week, so if FHSU wins the conference tournament, they have a chance to host the regional. State 1A Tournament Changes Schedule | |
