TRACY, Calif. – A California Sunday school teacher was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and killing an 8-year-old girl whose body was stuffed into a suitcase found in an irrigation pond.

Melissa Huckaby, 28, was arrested at 11:55 p.m., about five hours after she drove herself to the station at the request of police, according to Tracy Police Sgt. Tony Sheneman.

She tried to plead guilty on a previous charge. Judge told her to get check out by a medical professional. Doctor said she was fit for trial at the time.

FBI statistics show women are involved in just 7 percent of murders of any sort. Solo killings of children by women are even more unusual.

Yes, other than killing their own kids like a few mothers we've seen in the news, women killing kids is unusual. But it still doesn't surprise me. After all I've heard of over the years it'd have to be pretty bizarre to surprise me. Regardless of who did it or why, they need an extra long ride in an electric chair.
