| I've got a friend who has a female pig she's going to get bred. She said that if her pig has piglets, we buy feed for one of them, they'll take care of it until butchering time. Then the hog is our to get butchered. My question (I didn't ask her, didn't think to): how much is feed and how much feed do pigs eat per month, roughly? The male she had butchered recently was 227 lbs and cost her 165.00 to have it done. I'm just trying to figure out whether or not it would be worth it, financially, to do this.
Thanks! | |

| Ask a resturant if you can have all their garbage. Nothing else needed for a pig. | |

| The average rate for feeding a policeman is unknown. Sorry, don't mean to hog the limelight. I would ask your friend if its worth it or not financially. P.S. I would like you know myself, maybe go into the Truffles bussiness? | |

| I would ask the pig owner also.
You can cut cost (or increase) by controlling how much you have smoked. If you like fresh side it would cost less than bacon. You can leave the ham fresh rather than smoked also. Or you can go the other direction and have the pork chops and the picnic smoked. The rest could be country style ribs and sausage. | |

| I know an organic hog farmer. I never knew pork could be so lean...the other white meat! I don't know if he is taking orders though. Man it is good. | |

| After 10 years of trying, I finally figured out how to make a pork roast, and have it taste really good and not be dry at all! Maybe we'll go that route with the pig... leaving it mostly natural. We're not big bacon or sausage eaters. The husband would definitely go for the ribs. | |
