| officer beats teen girlCheck out this story, watch the video and tell us all you thoughts. Myself, I think the actions by the officer are overboard and has put him in a criminal status. The little flick of the girls shoe, although not right, does not give him the right to beat her like he did. I think he should be charged, fired, tried and given the appropriate sentence..... then sent to prison. | |

| So she kicked shoe out the door, is that enough to justify beating a 15 year old girl. Looking at the size of the officer, she is no physical threat to his welfare. The guy needs to be put on trial for Assualt and Battery instead of Fourth Degree Assault. | |

| Do you not think that the Officers were well in their right to enter the cell to prevent any more danger from the prisoner? Rather than closing the door? If you get the audio, you can hear the officer ask for her shoes, and as she is kicking them off, you can hear her mumble something.....somthing about birthcontrol pills.
What was she under arrest for?
Cop is a known killer. |

Yeah a shoe tapping you on the shin is pretty gruesome. I'm not sure how that poor cop had the fortitude to overcome such a horrid attack to charge her like a mad bull. My vote..... Put him in a cell full of prison fags and hand them a roll of duct tape and a taser just for fun. Then check on him after a week to see if they need more duct tape.

| Dumb poll. The officer is clearly excessive and should be charged (what is 4th degree assault?). Anyone who thinks this was justified is looking at it with blinders on. | |

| What "dumb" about the poll? The poll did not assault the 15 year old. |

What I think about it that is wrong is only being charged wit 4th degree assault. I think his actions are full blown assault and battery.

| Why is the poll dumb? There was a legit question as to whether others agreed with the officer, or his punishment. I can assure you I've known hard core conservatives that think anyone who gets arrested deserves anything that happens to them because good Americans just sit at home, read the bible, praise republicans, and bitch about everyone else that doesn't. | |

| Sorry, guess the poll wasn't dumb. I just can't see how anyone would think his actions were justified. | |

| gibleis, I will not claim to be an expert on the law so let me turn to you and ask how his actions only merit 4th degree assault and not a higher charge. It seems that the 4th charge is pretty light considering what is seen in the video. I'm not trying to cause problems over this, just trying to get a better understanding of it and the charges involved | |

| I agree that the charge is not harsh enough. By the time this is through the courts that girls family will own the police station | |

Other states law confuse me. In Kansas that would be Battery or Ag Battery. I don't know what the 4th degree stuff is. This shouldn't even be tried as an excessive force case cause no force was needed at all. It was revenge/aggression on the part of the officer.

| I'll tell you what will happen as a result of the video recording of the police beating of this girl...nothing. It happens everyday somewhere in this country--this poor cop just had the misfortune of the video getting out to the public. At worst, the offending officer will be advised to take some anger management counseling at his own convenience. A sad fact of life is that Cops look after Cops. Most of them are good people who do a difficult job as well as they can. The poor judgement and brutal tactics of cops like the one on the video only serve to give them all a bad name. Anyone who justifies this kind of behavior, whether they are in law enforcement or not should be ashamed. Any bar room bouncer worth his salt could have handled this situation with less violence than that shown in the video. The officer was clearly enraged and out of control. As unfortunate as it is, it will be swept under the rug and no one will even remember it a year from now. My best advice to everyone is this: Don't even put yourself in the position to be confronted by a policeman in the first place. They are typically under-educated, understaffed, overworked, and armed to the teeth. They cover for each other's foul-ups and judges rarely disagree or dispute their testimony. Avoid them if at all possible and you won't get tossed into lock-up in the first place. | |

Excellent advice. I think of cops as kinda like a rattlesnake. Tiny reptilian brain, purely reactionary... keeps the vermin in check, but quite dangerous to anybody who crosses their path. And I think it's kinda funny when they get shot.
