| BS!!!! I am kind enough to allow the State of Kansas to borrow hard earned money from me, interest free, and when the final bill comes due, and I am due a refund they cannot pay me? Fuck them. They can afford to pay some jack booted thug to sit and masterbate in the alleys of Hays. But they cannot pay me my 92 bucks? Ill get mine, trust me, I will, Plus interest. |

Umm, are you sure of that, who did your taxes? The STATE will not tax you on your STATE refund...now the fed may tax you, but the state allows a subtraction...maybe you (whomever did your return) missed that and that would be on the preparer. The cash shortage makes sense though, most people who are going to get a refund are on the ball and file their taxes right away, while those that are probably going to owe, wait until the last minute, so you have more cash going out right now as it relates to taxes.

Doesn't mean it was taxable to the fed, could have been, depends on your 2007 return...It would never be taxable to the state. Your comment said it was taxable to the state, if you put it as taxable to the Fed and didn't adjusted your state, then your state return is wrong. Regardless, we are talking about $4.

Maybe some of the state employees in management positions... waaaay up the ladder. The grunts earn every dollar they make. Plus, the benefits aren't any better than private sector jobs.

| Most of the state employees can take off a few weeks each year, with pay, and no one even notices they were gone. The little bit of work they had to do still got done by someone else. | |

| Including all benefits, my gross is around $490 a week after 12 years with the business. Ellis Co. average is supposed to be around $630 weekly. How do state employees compare to that?

I can only speak for fellow unclassified support staff at universities, but we don't get a stellar amount of vacation days. We earn 3.7 hours of vacation and sick leave per pay period. As for benefits...health insurance and dental. Pretty basic. I know there are some areas where they could trim the fat. However, the majority of of the 42,000 state employees who may not get paid this week, they live paycheck to paycheck. If I don't receive a paycheck Friday, then I'm sh*t creek. I don't think my landlord, gas company and electric company will accept an IOU.

| Why doesn't the state just kill of of those that have life sentences, or those that have been sitting on death row for years and years. Shot them with a 9mm and I bet that will save a lot more money than letting them sit in there with free room & bored. Also consolidate some of the smaller town schools into one building.... the list can go on and on.
But withholding these paychecks and refund dollars is what keeps people afloat and many people need this to survive a day to day basis. My husband works at FHSU and I'm lucky enough to be a stay at home mom with our children. If they would cut his benefits we would be up a shit creek without a paddle. Without his benefits we would be in even larger debit with hospital bills, so any idea of cutting ANYONES benefits(no matter where they work) is beyond idiodic.

One of my friends is an accountant, and she has worked for the state for several years. After looking at nitro's link, I see she makes under 37,000/year. One of my nieces, who has worked for a nationally known company for 5+ years as an accountant, makes almost 3x that.

| We are all in this recession, I remember back in the late 1990's that our schools would get lots of moneys from the Ks lotteries. If we voted it in!! Yet our Kids, schools, the teachers pay.. the p.e. and all other equipment suffer and don't seem to have that money at all. Why can the lottery money Pay us our Ks taxes? and pay the Ks gov. their friday checks? And first give our schools most of the money coming to them...all from the lottery! Where does that money go any ways? That's a lot of moneys!!! | |

| Cutting state benefits, idiotic....I don't think so. My father worked at FHSU and his income was very sufficient. It allowed my mother to never have to work one day. And there were three children in my family. In this day and age, I don't know very many families that can live on one income, but it sure helps if you work for the state. | |

Do you know how much health insurance costs for family coverage? My husband hasn't worked for the state for 6 years, but when he did, the family coverage premium then was over $300.00/month and he made 31,000/year. He worked for the state for just under 14 years. You think that's good?
