I need some help here, Im looking for advice. Alex has a nasty cough and a sore throat - and I can't give him anything but tylenol. Any home remedies for an infant to help comfort his throat and supress the cough? I feel so bad for him, he just cries cause his throat hurts... Sad

Try popsickles. Cold on a sore throat can feel good, just don't let him get cold himself. They claim honey can be bad for babies under a year old, so unless a doc recommends it I might stay away from honey treatments. Mints like peppermint and wintergreen may help too.

The only humidifier I have right now is just a normal, not a warm air. His nose isn't stuffy anymore which makes me think it is all starting to settle into his chest which worries me. I read up on the honey thing AFTER my mom suggested we try a honey/lemon/water mixture and honey in a child under the age of 1 is dangerous due to botulism. He finally took a bottle and fell asleep after a dose of tylenol so I am hoping he gets a few hours sleep.

Watch him close for any changes that would indicate breathing abnormalities NB. Glad you read up on the honey bit before trying it. It's called infant botulism, but I'm not sure how common it is. You might have been fine, but why chance it?

He is sleeping upright in his car seat right next to me - and that is where he will stay all night. We are at the new house and I am gonna sleep on that comfy sofa sleeper while buff sleeps in the recliner. I didn't read up on the botulism until after I had tried about 4-5 oz of the water/honey/lemon but I used a miniscule amount of honey and there is like a 1% chance of botulism in an infant from it. I read up on the symptoms and will keep an eye on him. My mom claims she gave me honey/lemon when I was an infant and I turned out ok (I guess) - so I am not horribly worried, just going to be cautious and aware.

Yeah NB the botulism isn't real common and I'd say most of us probably got a lemon honey shot in our first year. My main worry is his breathing from respiratory infections. But if he's with you all night I expect he'll be looked after well enough. Rest may cure half the problem itself.

I can hear it in his throat when he coughs - and his cough isn't tight yet so as long as it stays loose and phlemy I think he will be ok. I am listening for it to tighten up, my oldest son was in the hospital at 6 mo with pneumonia so am extra cautious.
