| If you don't like the price, don't buy the stuff. In Europe fuel is over $7.00 per gallon and somehow they all manage to survive. When gas hits $10.00 per gallon;which it will--do we nationalize our oil companies like Nicaragua and Mexico? Is that the answer to our problems? Maybe so. Maybe we're ready for a socialist government now and that would be the end for those greedy oil companies like Standard Oil and Phillips Petroleum. When you think about it, why not nationalize the auto companies of this country too! I personally believe that $30,000 is entirely too much to pay for a new car. Hell, the first house I lived in didn't cost that much! I think Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge ask waaaay too much for their cars and trucks. Lets let the government take them over too and that way them sons-a-bitches won't get rich off us anymore!----Come on people, it's all about choices, decisions, and consequences. | |

The funny thing is that if government catches someone selling plywood at 2 times the rate when a hurricane is rolling in they call it price gouging and threaten action against the profiteers. But when our own military leaders at the Pentagon said Cheney's old pals at Halliburton were charging the taxpayer double the rate for gasoline in Iraq, the government response was weak at best. This isn't about the choice of buying hamburgers because you can't afford steak. This is about charging high prices just because the only choice is pay up or do without. This is about government ignoring certain big corporations doubling and tripling their prices and pocketing the billions in profits while the guy who makes 20,000 a year will be lucky if he gets a 50 cent raise each year.

that works for me.....the difference between here and europe tho is , except for a few major cities, public transportation like buses and subways or other rail options are non-existent here. We have no choice but to drive.

We have no choice but to drive. The city has money to waste on the HCVB, and PolyCarts, and trees on North Vine, yet no money for public transportation. Interesting.

Hays is kind of like a 12 year old. They are putting on a big city act when they still have some growing to do.

| With diesel fuel crowding almost $5.00/gallon, how does the Fire Department justify chasing the ambulances all over town? More often than not they're not needed yet they continue to drive those huge expensive fire trucks around like they get their fuel for free. Years ago, they responded to fires and car wrecks-at any given time nowadays you can see them cruising the streets of Hays; something that I lost the ability to afford about a year ago. The fuel budget for Hays Fire has obviously been elevated. | |
