| yeah i just found out today from alltel that if we buy a new phone & from here on out, that you can't use ur own ringtones that you either make or bluetooth to set as ppl's ringers...you will have to use the default ringers on the phone for different ppl...or you can pay $2.99 or more for a ringtone that you have to download & set the ringers that way...how stupid is this | |

| I have the Nex-Tech Wireless plan. I love it, I have great reception, they will transfer all the info in your addresses from your old phone to a new one at no charge. Your unused minutes will roll over to the next month. Very nice people work there as well. | |

I use Nex-tech as well, the only thing that screws with me is that I travel to and from Salina all the time and I cant get good reception most of the time!

I had a Motorola phone from N.T. that didn't have very good reception either. I got a Razr and it seems to be working a lot better for me.

We just dumped Alltel because of the terrible reception here in Topeka and the fact that it was always on roam. We went with AT&T. Got two Nokia 6126 phones free, more daytime minutes, unlimited nights & weekends, unlimited texting and multimedia messaging, nationwide roam-free, all for a little less than Alltel was charging for voice service only. If I ever get by the AT&T store, I can get a USB cord to connect the phone to the computer. After downloading the Nokia suite (free), we'll be able to use any tune in ITunes to make our own ringtones. The phone can also be used as an MP3 player.

| The problem I had with Alltel is that the service was expensive for the rate plans and text plans. I have a better deal with Sprint where my service plan and text plan are rolled into one. The Sprint service works great here in Hays and I'm on a no roaming plan here. | |

From the information I was given, the 8130 and all other smartphones are designed to send and receive pics, videos, etc. by way of email only. You should be able to get them if you have people send them to your phones email address. Not sure why this is.

I have been able to bluetooth ringtones from razr to razr, but not across brands. i.e. motorola to lg, lg to samsung, kyocera to motorola. Don't know if it's different data formats or what?

It is called a ringback tone. Every (well almost every) cell phone provider offers it. It isn't Alltel that chooses the song, it is the person you called. if the person has chosen the ringback feature but not assigned a song, then you get a default, but again, the person you are calling gets to choose what you hear. To address the inability to put your own songs as ringtones: It is a liability issue. The reason you have to pay 2.99 for the song is because you need to pay the artist who wrote the song. if you make your own, and bluetooth it over then the artist gets ripped off. The cell phone companies were starting to get sued by the artists for allowing this. So, they blocked it. Ya see? it isn't all some giant conspiracy to rip the customers off. Well, it might be, but it goes higher than the cell phone companies. Calm down. it is a cell phone. it isn't life or death.

Then settled on 1. And when the 1 year license expired I let it drop. It is a neat gimick, but not something I wanted to continue with. and, I have paid for all the ring tones I have downloaded. Again, I am only using one now. But at work, I can't have some song from the 80's exploding from my phone, so I don't use the ringtone anymore either.

Not as outrageous as the copyright violation lawsuits. That 2.99 is a license fee, and I suspect that Alltel (or Verizon, or whoever you go with) sees about 10 cents of it. The rest goes to the publishing company of the person who wrote the song. I know, I know, as Americans it is our right to get everything for free, but at some point the artist needs to get paid, right?
