Isn't it just special that we, the taxpayers, are now bailing out giant Wall St. companies when half of us can't afford to pay attention?

I hope nobody here plans on retiring. Ever.

Now the auto industry is begging, "gimme gimme". Why, we can't let them fail, too, can we?

Woman arrested for not paying electric bills
By Tribune staff

.
Felony theft charges are expected to be filed next month against a La Crosse woman who owes more than $8,000 to Xcel Energy after failing to pay her electric bill for four years, according to the La Crosse police.

Carrie Wrencher, 42, of 1320 West Ave. S., is free on a signature bond and scheduled to appear Oct. 8 in La Crosse County Circuit Court. An employee who worked in the fraud department of Xcel told police Wrencher’s account was disconnected about two years ago when it reached $4,600, according to police reports.
Wrencher reconnected the service using three different names and false Social Security numbers, police said. She failed to pay the bills under the fake names, and service was disconnected for each account.

Wrencher told police she would begin making payments in October.

United States
In 1833 the United States reduced the practice of imprisonment for debts at the federal level. Most states followed suit. It is still possible, however, to be incarcerated for debt: debts of fraud, child-support, alimony, or release fines can land a citizen in jail or prison, or prevent one’s release. In the state of Tennessee, the Tennessee State Constitution forbids civil imprisonment for debts.

I'm sorry, but if the utility is stupid enough to fall for the same trick by the same person that many times, well, they deserve the loss

Unfortunately, in a few years that might not be very much money.
