Heard on the tv just now, that Ellis took a hit at 8:29. Damage to buildings but no injuries so far.

Hope all's well.

TV reports numerous power flashes during the two hits in Ellis. They may not have power for Jess and Ratz is a storm chaser for the county. He tells them to turn on the sirens.

I have been hearing Ratz over the scanner. From what i have heard there is just a metal building and trees and power lines down. Haven't heard of any injuries yet.

Knock wood.

They just said on KSN that the town of Protection in Comanche county took a direct hit from a tornado.

This is looking alot like the Greensburg nite

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tornadoes rampaged in western and central Kansas for the second night in a row Friday, destroying numerous homes and causing widespread damage to farm buildings and power lines.

Local and state emergency officials were still assessing the damage in numerous counties late Friday but only one injury had been reported.

Sharon Watson, spokeswoman for the Kansas Adjutant General's Department, said a man was injured when his vehicle was blown across Interstate 70 in Gove County. He was taken to a hospital in Quinter and his condition wasn't immediately known.

She said Gove County officials reported at least 12 homes had been destroyed or suffered major damage, and they had issued a local disaster declaration, the first step before requesting state assistance.

"They're reporting many structures destroyed," she said.

Emergency officials in Commanche County said the city of Protection took a direct hit from a tornado but said initial assessments showed no injuries and mostly overturned trees and power lines.

Watson said the Kansas Department of Transportation was moving though Protection and reported that most of the damage was limited to the east side of town.

"Emergency responders are going door-to-door to see if anyone needs rescuing," she said.

A dispatcher for the Commanche County Sheriff's office said the worst damage occurred to a manufacturing plant.

The city of Greensburg, which was largely destroyed a year ago by a massive twister, reported only minor damage when a tornado hopped from the western edge to the eastern edge of town.

"The funnel cloud went directly over the top of Greensburg," said Ray Stegman, Kiowa County emergency preparedness manager.

In Ellis County, a tornado damaged a home and several rural outbuildings, as well as knocking down power lines, said emergency management department spokesman Errol Wuertz.

In Trego County, the storm concentrated on the southeastern part of the county, destroying a home, a chicken house, several barns and oil field equipment.

Watson said Lane County officials reported several mobile homes were destroyed, some with people still in them, although no injuries were reported. She said there was also structural damage reported in Pratt County.

Many of the communities suffered minor damage Thursday night when as many as 10 tornadoes touched down.

In addition to the tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, forecasters said the central Kansas was also dealing with wind gusts of up to 61 miles per hour, up to tennis ball-sized hail and heavy rain.

"Unfortunately some of the areas that got hit today were hit yesterday," said Sarah Johnson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Goodland.

Johnson said Norton County has received more than 6.5 inches of rain over the past two days and the service was expecting minor flooding along Sappa Creek in Decatur County in northwest Kansas.

"Obviously that much rain over two days is going to cause problems," she said.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers last night, Big thanks to all who checked on us. The tornado destroyed sheds and uprooted trees mostly from what I could tell. Reports where that the damage was on the West side of Ellis but from what I could tell, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the majority of the damage was between the Ellis nursing home and 16th street. It totally skipped our house, THANK GOD, and hit the next block to our north. I also noticed some shed damage south of 16th street. We still dont have electricity as far as I know, we are in Hays for the day, where it is cool, after a long night! But I wanted to thank all that called and thought of us all over there.

Jess, I am glad that you are all okay. I absolutely despise tornadoes. I don't mind a nice little shower and a thunderstorm. I assume that Ratz is okay too!

I have not heard from Ratz, I hope he is well......but there is not electricity over there, he may not have access to power.

just talked to his mom, he was outside using a portable generator to charge batteries, so he is fine, just preparing for another possible night of storms.

Power to the people... of Ellis.

There may have been as many as 6 different tornado touchdowns all around Ellis. Several farms in the Ellis area and several more in Trego county were hit. At least two homes destroyed, numerous sheds and garages damaged or destroyed. At least 3 barns lost their upper floors. Main power lines leading into Ellis and numerous other lines downed. Large trees uprooted on the west side of town. Part of the Ellis High School gym roof taken off, and a cinderblock structure across the street from it destroyed. A fence and garage destroyed on the east side of town beside the Catholic cemetary. Large trees uprooted north of town, a pickup by the campgrounds at the dam had a tree dropped on it, a quansit destroyed by the old dump, and several other vehicles damaged. All in all, If you weren't one of those taking a direct hit the town was very lucky.

Good job Ratz I was in Barton county later that night and only caught I couple of Wall clouds

But I didn't get any good video of the tornados that hit town.
