My least favorite holiday. It's 10:33PM and somewhere in the neighborhood some idiot is shooting off LOUD fireworks. Hello!! Some people have to get up and go to work. (Not me but I do like to have quiet when I go to bed.)

You go to bed at 10:33? Why if you don't have to work? You aren't like 120 years old are you?
Kidding aside, fireworks are not legal for "public" use at any time of day in KS on July 2nd. At least not in Ellis Co. Some jurisdictions may have differing policy.

I'm almost half that. It seems the older I get the earlier I go to bed. Mu husband goes to bed early though because 4:30AM comes awfully fast.

I choose not to celebrate the fourth of July. this is not the America I love. not when public school systems celebrate Mexican holidays (Cinco de mayo). Not when kids and young adults are taught it is ok to be homosexual. Not when a person who takes a dogs or cats or any other animals life is handed a harsher sentence then a person who takes another human beings life. not when terrorists that are proven guilty of their crimes have the same or greater rights then an American citizen. not when illegal immigrants get the same privilege's as American citizens. not when a person is hired based on race and sex instead of experience and qualifications. not when I have radical believes shoved down my throat but if I speak out i am "labeled". not when abled bodied Americans are given handouts instead finding work. not when government try's to control every aspect of everybody's day to day life. not when memorial day is treated like a party instead of remembering the soldiers who fought and even gave their life's for this country. not when Christmas is so commercialized and blended together with thanksgiving and new year as all one big holiday ( happy holidays instead of merry Christmas). not when monopolies like walmart is allowed to shut down main street. not when it is cheaper to buy new then to fix old. not when china and Dubai owns more of America then Americans do. No sire this Holiday I will not celebrate with the rest of you instead i will sit back and reflect. reflect on days gone by. days that children are safe to play outside, days when the evening was spent on the front porch instead in front of a television, days when a handshake and a mans word was trusted. and of course I will reflect how this country was created and how the men who signed the declaration of Independence had put their life on the line by drafting and signing that dearly beloved document.

I would have to say I agree with most of that! Well said Zeke.
In my particular city Fireworks are not allowed AT ALL. However, I heard them popping off clear up until 1 am last night. Apparently it's one of those "as long as noone complains" type of bans. All I can say is that I worked my tail off to get my 2 year old to sleep last night and if they had woken him up... I'd of been grouchy.

I know I said 4th of July was my least favorite holiday and everything zeke said is true. But as I sang "America the Beautiful" this morning in church I felt a pride well up in me and I still believe that The United States is the greatest place on earth. We just have to get back to what the founding fathers intended. Happy Birthday America!
America the Beautiful Words by Katharine Lee Bates, Melody by Samuel Ward
O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet Whose stern impassioned stress A thoroughfare of freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife. Who more than self their country loved And mercy more than life! America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for halcyon skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the enameled plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till souls wax fair as earth and air And music-hearted sea!
O beautiful for pilgrims feet, Whose stem impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till paths be wrought through wilds of thought By pilgrim foot and knee!
O beautiful for glory-tale Of liberating strife When once and twice, for man's avail Men lavished precious life! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till selfish gain no longer stain The banner of the free!
O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till nobler men keep once again Thy whiter jubilee!

My next door neighbor had a t-shirt on today that said "Legalize Freedom". I like the concept.
