Very few people are, as adults, persuaded of the idea that (say) a Messiah was born to a virgin and managed to bend the laws of physics, or that we should revere a man who at the age of 53 had sex with a nine-year-old girl. You can usually only persuade people of this when they are very young – a time when their critical and rational faculties have not yet been developed – and hope it becomes a rock in their psychological make-up they dare not pull out.

The one has NOTHING to do with the other. This crap of the bitter and sour grape conservative presumption that people who voted for Obama think he's some sort of messiah is rubbish. It just reiterates your hostility, nastiness and complete disregard for others opinions. Like the Republicans really NEED that these days! That's just the attitude they need to stop projecting to keep people from leaving the party in droves.

Quote :
mes·si·ah
1capitalized a: the expected king and deliverer of the Jews b: jesus 1
2: a professed or accepted leader of some hope or cause

Definition 2 fits.

1.... Some of his voters hoped he'd give them money.

2.... Some of his voters hoped he'd screw the white man.

3.... Some of his voters believe socialism is a great cause.

4.... Some of his voters believed getting the first black president would spark a liberal revolution.

5.... Some of his voters followed him just because they are sheep.

6.... Some of his voters followed because he gave a better sermon.

7.... Some of his voters just always vote democrat.

8.... Some of his voters just hate republicans.

9.... Some of his voters really believe he is the messiah.

10... In his speeches he spoke of hope, dreams, noble causes, change, and deliverance from all that is wrong. Which was basically saying "Follow me, for I am your messiah".

Well dear, being as he was the canditate that ran on promises of hope and change, don't you think he should be held to that standard? There is no hostility, there is no nastiness. He is just another politician who happens to have very good speach writers. If you believe he is bringing anything resembling hope and change to America, good for you. A vast majority of Americans dont.

Celtic- let this be a lesson to you. Don't take the bait.

I gotta say that I'm amused almost daily as I watch the GOP implosion. Nitro's Rush/Fox parroting is just a symptom of a much broader and deeper malaise afflicting the Party of Torture, Perpetual War, and Assorted Intolerance. I honestly don't know what their where this will end- perhaps they'll go out with a bang:

Palin/Plumber 2012! If you don't get people young, you probably won't ever get them 952780

Seriously, though... I really hope that the GOP emerges better for all this. And by 'better', I mean sane (among other things). 'Cause even though I voted for Obama, I DON'T want to see the Democrats enact their entire wish list... unfortunately they have no viable opposition at the moment.

If I had my druthers, I'd like to see the Libertarians replace the GOP as the 'other' party. But I don't often get my druthers.

But back to topic:

The Jesuits have a saying: "Give us a child until they are seven and they are ours for life."

Them Jesuits tell it like it is. Not only is religion often tantamount to 'brainwashing'... these guys are devout enough to gloat about it.

Yeah, back on topic. I knew the Brits were weird, but didn't know they required a kid by law to have religion. The power of the church never surprises me though. The Catlicks got Hays to close off Milner street so they could build on top of it. The old water mains probably run East to West in that part of town, but I'd LMAO if a forgotten water main ran down Milner under it that erupted like Old Faithful during services some day.
