Speaking of oilfields.... We watched There Will Be Blood last night. We really thought we were going to like it- but really didn't! Has anyone else seen it?

We watched it too a while back and I just about went to sleep.

So Mike, where do you work? The hubby went 46 days without a day off last year.

from the years I spent working on a rig I never saw the type of antics they have on black gold. my driller was easy going and efficient. we all worked with safety as the top priority and tho we had some close calls due to equipment failure, no one ever got hurt in the time I was there. worst situation was when a rope we were using on a fast running cathead fouled and started thowing huge loops as it sucked up all the line. The derrick hand was able to get away clear and the worst that happened out of that was some damage to the cathead as well as the downtime to cut the rope off ( that took several hours as it was very tightly wrapped up ). One other close call was when we were lifting up the test tool and the elevators popped open and dropped the tool about 15 feet. It missed us three hands by mere inches and if any one of us had been stading any closer we would have been pancaked. That could have been avoided if the toolpusher had made the right decision and gotten us a new elevator unit to work with. Prior to the test we had the same elevator pop and lock onto the pipe string so as to be locked so tight we could not get them to open normally. It took us about 2 hours beating on them with a sledge hammer before we could get them to release. When our driller asked about getting a different elevator the tool pusher, an old old oilfield hand himself looked at for a minute the said in a slow raspy voice roughed up by years of smoking and whiskey drinking, " aw hell , run them sons a bitches there ain't notning wrong with 'em". Needless to say, the tester was not happy when his new test string came crashing down and was bent in the shape of an "S" on hitting the rotary table. ah, those were the days on god ole Murfin rig 15......

I spent a lot of time on Rigs,but not in Kansas. I seen most of those antics and plenty more

Another time he came in for his daily check on things and shoot the bull. He was leaning on the geolograph with a cigarette dangling in his fingers and he was moving his hands around gesturing as he was talking. He moved his hand up to take a drag on his cig and he got this funny look on his face as ihs fingers reached his mouth and the cig wasn't where he thought it should be. We all started laughing cause we had seen it drop from his fingers and fall into the trash can below. His expression and reaction as he scrambled to get the cig out of the trash before it ignited was priceless.......

Or when he was drilling evening tour, he would say, "Get me away from this work house son of a bitch. Did you buy me a beer?"
