Below is a list of current active Supreme Court Justices, in order of seniority: John Roberts (Chief Justice), January 27, 1955, age 53 John Paul Stevens, April 20, 1920, age 88 Antonin Scalia, March 11, 1936, age 72 Anthony Kennedy, July 23, 1936, age 71 David Souter, September 17, 1939, age 68 Clarence Thomas, June 23, 1948, age 60 Ruth Bader Ginsburg, March 15, 1933, age 75 Stephen Breyer, August 15, 1938, age 69 Samuel Alito, April 1, 1950, age 58 As you can see, six of the nine justices will have reached their seventieth birthday before the end of the next president's first term. It's also interesting to note that the three who are considered the most conservative are also the youngest (Roberts, Thomas, Alito), while the two oldest, John Paul Stevens and Ruth Buzzy Ginsburg are considered to be liberal. It appears to me that McCain would have a bigger opportunity to change the balance on the court in regard to issues such as Roe v. Wade than Obama would. However, that goes on the assumption that McCain would choose conservatives as nominees, and he hasn't exactly been the most predictable member of the Senate.

The incoming President will not be appointing any Supreme Court Justices anytime soon, see the bolded section below. The Supreme Court of the United States (sometimes colloquially referred to by the acronym SCOTUS)[1] is the highest judicial body in the United States, and leads the federal judiciary. It consists of the Chief Justice of the United States and eight Associate Justices, who are nominated by the President and confirmed with the "advice and consent" of the Senate. Justices serve "during good Behaviour,"[2] which terminates at death, resignation, retirement, or conviction on impeachment.[3] The Court meets in Washington, D.C. in the United States Supreme Court building. The Supreme Court is primarily an appellate court, but has original jurisdiction in a small number of cases.[4]

WTF are you thinking? Stevens is 88 years old. At that age, a good day is any day that you wake up in the morning. That's an almost certain appointment in the next 4 1/2 years. Did anyone else notice that Justice Stevens' birthday is 4/20?

You, young lady, should be responding to the actual topic of this thread rather than the frivolous musical references.

As well as a Congress and Senate... That ain't no sheet. Justoo.. Barr has flipped on an issue or two, but I always did think him a far more libertarian minded man than our other main party choices.

LOL. Ok. let's see. You're right, there's no soup lines, cuz it's NOT 1933. The collapse of the system will most likely manifest itself differently in these times....and yes there are some safeguards in place but will they dig us out of this mess...and. by the way.....I think Starbuck's closed, what 600 stores this past two months? .......Ever heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac?
