| We used to go here every summer, when we were kids. Do any of you have any info on whether or not this place is still in operation? If so, what is it like now? Our next family reunion is going to be in the Hays area, and I thought it would be a good place to have it, if it's still open.

| I find it hard to believe any pond is dry right now. Kraus may own it, I can find out easy enough. My dad paid $100 a year membership back in the early 70's for that place. | |

That's the timeframe that we went, early thru mid 70's. I think that was what my mom said they paid, too.

| Upfront, If you will look closely you will see it was a question. I did not state it as fact. I enquired as to the possibility. You have posted on only two threads. This being one of them. You have asked me questions and I have tried to answer them without being vitriolic.
I can only ask you to show me the same respect I show you. Just because we are on opposite sides of an issue should not make us enemies. And just because you perceive me to be wrong on one issue does not make me wrong on everything I state. You are not required, nor even expected, to agree with me on anything. But I do expect a minimum of respect.

| Well, I did see that, but I don't know if that was stated only to try to discredit justoo, or if it is accurate.
If the place is just a mud hole now, we'll figure something else out. There's plenty of time. We just want something close to (or in) Hays, so our mom doesn't have to do any more traveling than necessary.

| I believe it is still in operation. I am not sure who operates it or how to call them but if you go on the blacktop south of Ellis to the Antonino road and then turn east, drive to the first intersection that allows you to turn back south, you can't miss it. Last time I was our there they had a sign up offering membership etc.. | |

| Charle Rohr (one of the zoning board members) owns it. His phone number is in the book.
I know there is also a spot at Cedar Bluff Lake that is a nice place to have a family reunion. Just call the Cedar Bluff Lake (Ellis Phone Book) and ask for the number of the ones that have the Hooper Building and a Bunkhouse on the North Shore. We have used this place for our family reunion and it is reasonalby priced. It will sleep about 50 people (dorm-style bunk beds). It has a kitchen bathroom, showers... It is worth looking into.

Funny you said that. I was just thinking how Masseys Mudhole could be a trip back in time for you if it still existed. The creekside, or "lakeside" campground as they like to call it by the dam in Ellis is pretty decent and has RV hookups, bathrooms, showers, etc., with a store, alcohol, and gas within a mile. And Ellis allows Sunday Liquor sales.

| Masseys wasn't so bad if you avoided the logs. But the Ellis creekside camp really is decent and necessities are nearby. A few good fish have been caught there too. There's a big open area on the South side of it and that part of town is excellent on July 4th because of all the family fireworks displays. | |

| There's a fishing dock, and platform much like that photo with deep enough water, but beware the fish hooks under the platform. A few hundred yards to the west, kids have put up a rope by a fallen tree where the water is also deep enough but it's kinda off the path a little. And Ellis does have a public pool too that I'm sure would do fine for belly flops with a public park right beside it. | |
