| For weeks I've been fighting a losing battle with what I thought were stray cats, digging rocks away and exposing a hole under my front porch. I was constrantly scooping the soil and rocks back, only to find them moved again, a few hours later. This morning, I was looking out the front window and saw the culprit! This was taken thru my picture window. It's got a clump of leaves stuck to it's tail. How the heck am I going to get rid of this thing? | |

| Put a couple of moth balls. under the porch. It won't hurt the little beast or its offspring, but they will leave.
Be careful when removing the mothballs from their host. This can be extremely painful if done incorrectly.

| Just curious, but do you have other pets and feed them outside? If so, the dog or cat food provides a pretty good incentive for the opossum to stick around. | |

| Our pets are fed inside only. There is a neighbor, two doors down, who feeds ALL wildlife. We've had a skunk or two walk through or backyard, toward her house (there is also a creek that runs behind her property), and a beaver sat under our apple tree for about 10 minutes (be quiet, nitro and ratz), and a couple of turkeys wandered through, last year. This is the 2nd opossum I've seen in my yard, but the 1st to take shelter under my porch (that I know of). I tried to take a few pics under the porch, to see exactly where they are, but I'm not stupid enough to put my hand far enough in, to get a good shot, so all I see is leaves.

| If you are planning on blocking off your porch so the critters can't get under there, I STRONGLY suggest you double and triple check that there are not any under there when you seal it up. We had the same problem and closed it up only to find out that there was still something under there. We found this out when we couldn't walk into our living room or through the front door without the stintch of "death".. . We had to block off the whole livingroom from the rest of the house because the smell was unbearable. It took about 3 months (decomposition time) before we could even walk close to the front door from outside. Lesson learned for us, if they want to live under our porch . . . so be it, we aren't sealing off another hole, unless it causes or porch to collapse!!! Just my two cents | |

| The game warden still hasn't called me back. I called them at about 9:30 this morning, "We're sorry, but he's out of county, we'll give him your information, and he'll get back with you."... yeah... so am I supposed to wait for this thing to bite a neighborhood kid, or one of mine, before they do something? It was out in daylight. I'm most concerned about the possibility that the critter is rabid. Justoo...will the moth balls really work? | |

Or...just shoot it. It's not like there's a shortage of them in county or state for that matter. The .22 round would probably cost less than the mothballs...and be guaranteed effective.

That would have been a call to war. Law or none, I would have blasted those little bastards into the stone age to find themselves prey to a hungry pterodactyl. Yes, I had to look up that spelling. With my luck, they are probably vegetarians. On a somewhat more humorous note, I remember being near to a door. My dad used to work outside with his shirt off. I hear a muffled "god damn-it!" I look outside and see his bare back donning a warm pair of white chunky splotches from one of God's creatures above. I was an ungrateful teen at the time, so I really enjoyed it.

| SciFi, you'll be glad to know those pterosaurs were carnivores. But unlike the pterodactyls that try to chow down on men and women in the movies, it is assumed they were fish eaters. That's why the pterodactyl is not an uncommon find in Kansas Cretaceous ocean sediments. They were kind of like the pelicans and herons of their day. Besides, if you blew those pigeons back to that time period I'm sure the Mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, and assorted snaggle toothed fish would be happy to clean up whatever the pterosaurs missed. | |

Not cocky, just making use of all that prehistoric study for a spot of entertainment. But yeah, a pterosaur might just enjoy a pigeon snack.

| The trick, I was told, was to pre-cook them in a pressure cooker to squeeze out all of the natural grease in the meat, then toss them on the grill. If, you could get past the fact it looked like a big rat and you've downed enough beer to not really give a crap about what it was...it was sort of tasty. | |
