More stories than accuracies, methinks.

The one about the Ellis jail is partly true. A guy in 58 needed a place to stay and the local PD chief let him stay in the jail, but locked him in. The 58 flood hit with a 4 foot wall of water that pushed cars around so the guy in the jail had no chance. I've heard of odd noisaes down there, but nothing special. And I know a GS leader who wouldn't have scout meetings down there if there was much going on. Never heard anything about either the old or new High School.

The old Raynesford place on the SW side of town has had more real occurances, and I was there when one sighting took place. My nephew and I were digging on the creek bank below the old house on a calm quiet fall day. My nephew whispered "We got company". When I asked where he said up there on top of the bank. I looked but no one was there. We went up and looked around, but nothing. He said an old guy was standing there 10 feet away looking down at us, but it was impossible to get within 100 feet of our location because every step you took crunched dry leaves and there was no way to avoid them.

I believe some know the place as Helter Skelter but it burned down 10 or so years ago. I know it was an odd place and I used to get the feeling I wasn't alone anytime I was there.

Ratz, when it comes to Hays History, you know it well. You should start a thread just on Hays history trivia and just post things every once in a while.

There were also some occurrences at McGrath Hall that once stood on the FHSU campus. I lived in that dorm my first year at FHSU and heard the ghost stories about it. The only thing out of the ordinary i ever seen was the sign at the back of the building that had been burned out for years was flickering off and on one night when I walked by it. That creeped me out a bit especially when the RA told me that sign had been burned out for years.

Thanks, I know some of it. Wish I knew more though. Like where the ravine was that they dumped trash into in the 1860's and early 70's, or the old hand dug well on 9th street that was filled with trash and supposedly a couple bodies the town didn't want to pay to have buried. I think I know the approximate location of both, but not positively.

Any particular thing you are interested in about the history?
