| There used to be a way to see the houses sold in Hays along with the date sold, parties involved and amount sold. Does anyone know how to access that info? | |

| That's crooked IMO. It sounds like the BS where I work that you can be fired for telling other employees what your wages are or asking theirs. | |

The more I think about this, the more I don't like it. If those are public records and releasing them is not a risk to national security they should be available to anyone who wants to see them. It's like the old Sanborn fire insurance maps that showed where all the existing structures, water mains etc. were. The state has them for almost every town from the latter 1800's through the early 1900's but won't let the general public have them. Even public libraries have difficulty in getting the state to send them copies and that's pure bull. I'm getting real tired of public records held by the government not being available to the public.

| What reason does the state give for their position on the Sanborn maps? | |

That's how it is in each county I've lived in. The only people who have access to that information is real estate professionals, or folks in the appraiser's office. I don't get it, either.

I think alot of it stems from animosity archeologists have for private relic hunters. Sad thing is some of the best stuff on display publically was found by private hunters and much of the relics found in archeological digs has "disappeared" from museum inventories. During a fued between California archeologists and private hunters it was discovered as much as 80% of the finds made by state archeologists were unaccounted for. Make 100K or more a year watching college students find things for you and then make extra selling it out the back door. So naturally with the salary, prestige, and side profit to be made in old artifacts they don't want private citizens knowing where all the historic sites, old wells, cisterns, and privies were that might contain them.
