Spring Break...

Spring break is also the first week of the NCAA Tournament. Why would anyone waste their time on foolishness like vacation at such a wonderful time of the year?

Trying not to go crazy while my child cries because school is out and she WANTS TO GO!

My kids are always ready to go back, too.

I'll be working the whole week, actually. So will Oz. I'm guessing that my daughters will have practice all week. Their first game is on the Tuesday after break at Salina Central.

we are going to KC - I need some input on what to do with the youngins! They are 7 and 10.

Had some friends in from Kansas and drove to Laughlin for the day. Spring Break had taken over and it was very amusing. Casinos were full of 20 somethings who had too much to drink and too much money. Saw a couple who were crying and heard some calling home. What is more fun then watching people. BTW my lady, who loves to play poker, won enough to pay for the trip. All in all quite entertaining.

My kids went to Dave and Busters and T-Rex with my neighbor a couple of weeks ago and loved it! They're 8 and 11. There are links to all establishments on the Legends site.

Also NB if your looking for a place of entertainment for the kids while they eat go to the Rainforest Cafe in the Oak park mall. They have a live sounding animal stampede, many tropical fish and other creatures you can see while your eating. The Oak Park Mall is located at 95th Street and Quivira Rd. Mall Directions

Rainforest is closed. It closed a few months ago. T-Rex, in The Legends complex, is owned and operated by the same people who did Rainforest Cafe. Oak Park Mall does have a Build-a-Bear workshop. My girls went there with the neighbor, too (it was a birthday party for her grand-daughter).

Damn that shows how long its been since I have been to Oak Park. I agree with Suzy Legends is the place to go. The only things with Legends is that if its cold be sure to bundle up because its outside in the elements.

Take them down to Hall's Crown Center. They have a very cool Crayola store and diner, they have ice skating and then you can take them to Kaleidoscope which is across the street. Its free and the kids will have a blast.

Are they basketball fans? I know where you can get some NCAA 1st and 2nd round baskeball tickets (it's for the second weekend of spring break though, 19th and 21st).

I caved and booked for GWL. We wont have to leave the building unless we want to go to Legends or Cabelas, and those are all within a mile.

Have you ever taken them to Union Station? They'll have fun and won't even realize that they're learning.

I spend alot of time at Children's Mercy Hospital,get great discounted rooms at the Hyatt and we spend all our time right there at Crown Center and Union Station there's so much to do and it's all free or cheap.We love the science museum at Union Station and they have an Imax theater.Highly recommended from me too

Hey NB, Eric lives in KC and has kids. Michelle isn't far away either. I bet you could get a guided tour.

Actually, my husband is taking the to Kaleidoscope one day, then Natural History Museum in Lawrence, another day. Not sure what else he has planned. I couldn't take time off.

... but on the days they're home, they'll be working hard on their guillotine! I like TOO's idea of pointing them toward Topeka with their creation.

Excellent choice! The kids will love it. It is right there besides Cabela's, isn't it?

I have family coming up for a few days next week and, in addition to showing them around Lawrence, we're going to the Legends for a day. They're really wanting to go to Cabela's. I'm just not a rifles-and-dead-animals kind of girl though.

There's always the Kansas City Zoo

Yeah Cabela's is right out the front door of the lodge. I am excited to take the kids to T-Rex at The Legends. Cabela's is still pretty cool even if you don't like guns and stuff. They have some very nice clothes and the exhibits themselves are pretty cool. Upstairs is some nice home decor stuff, and a little restaraunt.
