To be 300 million years old it would have to be found in in the Eastern part of the state. That would be in the Carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era and nothing in Western KS predates the Mesozoic era. Most fossils found around this area date from the Pleistocene and Miocene periods of current era and the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic. The oldest things found right around here are in the 65 to 85 million year range. The further East you go in KS the older it gets.

Wasn't this found near the Oklahoma border? If so, we finally have proof that at some point in time, there was intelligent life in Oklahoma. None since then.

That's of course, why it gets older. What I think is neat is how 8 million year old Miocene deposits around here are towards the top of the hills, but those deposits were put there by what were once rivers. The present day hilltops were once the river valleys. Gives a sense of how long ago it was and how much different this place once looked.

LOL.. I'd be in pretty decent shape if I hadn't smoked so many years. I can still do some hard work but I do get winded easy.
