| I have been hearing a promotion on the radio recently about "The amazing 100 miles between hays and Salina". In this commercial they go on to hype different things to see and do. What amazes me is this......considering the fact the Ellis has just as many amazing things to see and do as many other spots along their "amazing"route, poor Ellis, the bastard step-child of the county, gets left out in the cold again. I mean really, Ellis is only 12 miles west of Hays. This saddens me as I think back to all the money on advertising with the radio station that comes from Ellis and also all the tax money that the people of the town contribute to the county coffers as well as the money spent by Ellis residents at hays businesses. Talk about a slap in the face.
What does Ellis have to offer??? There is the Railroad Museum and miniature train, The Walter P Chrysler boyhood home, Ellis Lakeside campground and several city parks along the 100 acre lake on Big Creek. The Bukovina Museum located in the historical Congregational Chruch, St Mary's Church which is a beautiful place to visit (also along Big Creek). Ellis is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle where you can slow down a bit and relax and enjoy yourself. If you haven't been here yet, take the time and stop by. I think you'll see what I am talking about.

| I hadn't really listened that closely to the advertisement myself. I guess I didn't realize that Ellis wasn't included, or where the 100 miles started and stopped. I just heard something about along I70 and a bunch of bed and breakfasts. Ellis does deserve some positive press. You're right. Does anyone know who funded the radio campaign? | |

| What radio station? I havn't heard it at all. The Chrysler home seems to get fair traffic. I've seen lots of tourists taking photos of it, and if the RR museum got more press, I think it's popularity would grow. Both have plenty of interesting things to see. I havn't toured the Bukovina museum, but The Catholic church is one of the nice limestone churches built in the same era as the Hays and Victoria churches that get more publicity. And the camping area by the dam has bathrooms with running water and showers and hookups needed for RV's. Some just camp there in a tent.
While there may be a reason for not mentioning these things other than just shafting Ellis here, I have to say these attractions sure beat alot of what has gotten big promotions in the state.

| Their website says the "Amazing 100 Miles Tourism Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting central Kansas." The Coalition is located in Wilson. Interested Ellis residents could form a non-profit organization of their own. Maybe the "Wild West Tourism Coalition," or something similar. | |

| I really think that the ride from Hays to Salina is quite boring. Yeah, there's stuff to do on both sides of interstate, but just the ride in particular is pretty boring. They do have windmills out by Ellsworth, but you can really see more of them going east, don't see them much going west. | |

It's actually a wide area of the creek made by the dam. Get off I -70 and head South on Washington to 8th street. Turn left (East) on 8th, drive 2 short blocks and the campgrounds will be on your left.

| There are also 2 city parks that border it at 10th and Dorrance. Go down Washington St to the stop lights on 10th St and turn west (right) and you will find the parks quite easliy. | |
