| Here is a tip: If you are in Las Vegas, and it snows......Don't eat the yellow snow.
Gonna do any gambling?
Are you gonna take the tribe?
Are you driving? Flying? Hitching?
When are you going?
Taking your mom?
You gonna send me a post card? |

| a couple of tips..... Stay in a family type place like the Excalaber, gambling and drinks for you, supervised game rooms and shows for the kids. (Reasonably priced) Shopping: a really cool retro place called 'The Attic' on the strip has some really neat stuff A day trip to Hoover Dam is also interesting for all WHATEVER YOU DO dont miss the light show on FREMONT STREET, it is GREAT! Shows are expensive but you can get free tickets if you have time to listen to the sales pitch for a condo. takes about 3 hours. | |

| I agree the light show is a must. I enjoy the Freemont District because it still has the old feel. At one point the area had a reputation but think that was just a hold over from the old days because of "mob" ties. Hoover Dam is well worth the time however when I was last up there work on the new cross-over did tie us up for some time. | |

| For gambling: Check out what's going on at the various Station Casinos. They range in price and accomodations from the upscale Green Valley Ranch, which is where Michael Jackson holed up for a while, to the very affordable Palace Station, which is where OJ got busted. Most of them have inexpensive buffets and low-minimum tables. For food, I would tell you about The Venetian Italian Ristorante at Sahara & Valley View (not associated with the Venetian Hotel) , but they closed a couple of years ago and it's a cheesy looking Mexican place now. Or I would tell you about Cappozzoli's near the mall on Maryland Parkway, but it burned down last year. So my two favorite places for reasonably priced food are gone. If you want a special girls' night out, consider Mon Ami Gabi in Paris Las Vegas. You can sit on the patio and watch the Bellagio Fountains while you enjoy some excellent French cuisine. This time of year would be great because of the more moderate temperatures. Oz and I have been there twice, once when we were on our honeymoon and again on my birthday a couple of years ago. We've also been to their other location in Chicago, and we've never been disappointed. For bachelorette party action, there's an upscale club in almost every hotel on The Strip these days. However, some of the more popular ones are very hard to get into. Or if you're so inclined, you could go to The Green Door and meet some guys of mikecc's caliber. | |

They actually do pump extra oxygen into the air in the casinos to keep you awake and promote a euphoric feeling.

| Do not pay attention to pan handlers, ignore them totally. Fremont Street is okay, just don't wander away from it. Don't take all your money with you when you gamble. Leave some in the hotel safe, or in your luggage somewhere. That goes for your ATM card, too. Hustlers prey on the tourists who are drunk, be aware of your surroundings. Do not carry a purse if you don't have to. Everything in your front pockets. Just be aware and careful, you will be fine. | |

Oz got us both a passport pouch on a lanyard a few years ago when we went to Mexico. I use it when traveling to hold all my stuff that would normally go in a wallet - license, check card, cash, etc. There's also room for my passport and ticket if I'm flying. The passport is much quicker when going through security at the airport, especially since my name is on the terrorist watch list (I have a very common, American sounding name and I wouldn't doubt that some swarthy raghead would choose it as an alias). Anyway, the pouch is much more secure feeling when in crowds where pickpockets thrive. I know someone with a gun could still get everything, but they would get it otherwise, too. And the sneaky ones a lot more common.

Okay, a few things that shouldn't scare you, but may help you to have a good time: 1. Don't gamble the entire time. Do research and decide what you want to do in the daytime, then go do it. There's a lot more to Las Vegas than The Strip. Take a cruise on Lake Mead, for example. It will give you a whole different perspective of Hoover Dam. 2. Make a budget for gambling. Take the money that you have set aside, then split it up among the number of gambling sessions you're going to have. When that session's money is gone, walk away. Do not, under any circumstances, dip into the next session's money. If you do, you'll end up either sitting there with no money for the final day or two or you'll be using money that should be going for your bills. The ATMs in the casinos are there for a purpose. The casino owners aren't stupid, but they don't care what happens to you next week or next month. 3. If you get on a winning streak, don't "let it ride." The first time you double your money, put your original amount away. You're now gambling with the casino's money. From that point on, every time you double your money, take half of it and put it away. If you start to lose and the money that isn't put away is gone, find a different game and start over. 4. If you take the free drinks at the tables or machines, pace yourself. Get a Coke or a water very other time. Again, the casino owners aren't stupid. The drinks are free for a reason. And don't forget to tip your waitress! 5. Stay away from sucker bets. Anything in the middle of the craps table is a single roll bet. The odds are huge for a reason. "Insurance" at the blackjack table only ensures the house of winning in the long run. Keno is nothing more than Powerball without the powerball. You'd be better off going to the sports book and putting your money on the Royals to win the World Series. 6. Finally, there's a topless car wash (or there used to be) just north on the Stratosphere on The Strip. Might be good for a laugh.

| We will be going the weekend after you for the 2nd time. We can't wait its our mini honeymoon. But we are staying at the Excalibur and are planning on going Fredmont street. I think one of the nights we are going to Fantasy at the Luxor again. We are also planning on eating at Dick's in the excalibur. We've heard many interesting stories about that place. I just hope a fight doesn't break out!
If you want REALLY good margaritta's theres a tequila bar in the Rio, which is excellent. Also at the New York New York's Coyote Ugly has a bar outside their bar with frozen drinks. We went there every day to get them they are excellent!

| I think the money belt or neck pouch is a good idea. That way, a street urchin's hand in your back pocket is just another cultural experience. I wouldn't rely on sticking stuff in your front pockets. A few years ago, I went to Paris with a group from FHSU. One of the guys had just withdrew some money from an ATM and put it in his front pocket. We were on the metro and a group of gypsy pre-teens surrounded him as the Metro was coming to a stop. He didn't realize that as they were bumping into him because they "lost their balance", they grabbed his money, too. Not that you'll have this experience in Vegas. :-) But I carried my purse around Vegas, didn't have any problems. No one messes with me. Jess: The Thunder From Down Under. (The Other One: Since you were so kind as to post a hoocherific photo of chicks, couldn't you post a hoocherific pic of the Aussie strippers?) Oh, and the e-mail I sent you...the place with the best (and cheapest) buffet is Boulder Station rather than Main Street Station. My bad! | |
