Former French President Jacques Chirac was rushed to a hospital after being mauled by his pet dog who is being treated for depression, in a dramatic incident that rattled his wife Bernadette. The couple's white Maltese Poodle, called Sumo, has a history frenzied fits and became increasingly prone to making "vicious, unprovoked attacks" despite receiving treatment with anti-depressants, said Chirac's wife Bernadette. "If you only knew! I had a dramatic day yesterday," she told VSD magazine. "Sumo bit my husband!" Mrs. Chirac, 74, did not reveal where the former president was bitten, but said, "the dog went for him for no apparent reason." "We were aware the animal was unpredictable and is being treated with pills for depression. My husband was bitten quite badly but he is certain to make a full recovery in weeks." Chirac was taken to a hospital in Paris where he was treated as an outpatient and later sent home. The 76-year-old was president of France for 12 years until 2007.

A Maltese's mouth is pretty small. Couldn't have been more than nibble much less a mauling. I agree that it would be end of show for that little &^%$*^%

He should be ashamed. Being mauled by a poodle would be like being beat up by Richard Simmons.

The poodle was coming at him from all directions. He didn't even have a chance to surrender.

My daughter was attacked by a dog when she was younger, we loaded her up and took her to ER and the police were called. I have heard that when a dog gets three strikes against them, they are taken away and put down.

The dog mentioned in the story has a "history of frenzied fits"...hhhmmm...the little bugger wouldn't last long in my house! Yep, Luke, a 22 would be the end of it.

I got rid of a dog that snipped at my daughter's daughter because she touched him, that would be WRONG!

If I was a poodle I'd be depressed and subject to frenzied fits too. He's probably heard every Gay Paree joke that visiting diplomats dogs knew.

* Former French President Jacques Chirac was bitten by a poodle, supposedly with mental problems. Sumo the poodle did have some issues. In therapy it kept insisting its mother was a bitch.
