| Does Hays haye a facility for disposing of unwanted electronics? I have a VCR, an old DTV receiver, and a TV to get rid of. Or if someone wants them, they can have them. | |

| They now have a charge to dispose of E-Waste. The City is part of a Grant Program with a Multi-City/County Program, from what I have heard it is minimal but no longer free as it was in the past. | |

They have classes at the Reed Developmental Center that like to receive just those types of items so they can see how they work. Computers, cameras, VCRs, smaller TVs, etc.

I have wondered the same thing. Over the last ten years, or more . . we have collected some UPS's (that's Uninterruptible Power Supply for those of you who live north of Topeka,) needing disposal . . . lead acid batteries. Guess I should call the landfill.

Just because "they" say its a free government program..........Where do you think the money comes from? It comes directly out of your pocket. You pay for everything. Nothing is free. Anywhere. Buy one, get one free....guess what? You are actually buying and paying for 2. Yes, Recycle. Yes, you will pay for it. |

| Well given the choice of having to pay to take it to the landfill or disguise it and put in the poly cart , guess which one wins. | |

| Yes they do. this is an untrue statement. Of course they charge to provide this service. Consult your 2008 Ellis County Budget and check out some of the line items you are not getting charged for. |

| 785-628-9460 I called and asked. They clearly stated there is no fee.
Mikecc may be referring to the taxes you pay. This is true. It is taxpayer funded. But when you drop off a tv, they ask for no more money.
Slider was misinformed.

| Why did they run a story on Street Beat about prior to Christmas explaining there would be a fee for disposal? It was clearly stated in that interview by the Director of the City of Hays Public Works and the person in charge of the E-Waste Program at the Ellis County Landfill that all E-Waste would be subject to a disposal fee.
I guess those people and the information they stated duriing that interview are now somehow moot, or are the Directors of those Entities just spewing false information to the Public?

| I didn't see the program you speak of. I called the landfill and asked. Kinda figured they would have the inside scoop on what they charge. | |

Yep, yep I vote this one as well. Im not driving my happy ass clear out to the landfill ( and get a few dozen nails in my tires along the way) to get rid of an old broken VCR. However I would donate it to Reed Developmental Services if they take them. Where do you drop it off?

Last time it was used was about 2 years ago. Prolly needs the dust blown out. The TV works too, it buzzes a little and the convergance at the top is a bit off. It prolly just needs blown out too.

| A few dvd players, a cd stereo, a few phones, a scanner/copier/printer, a vcr, who knows what else. I know 1 of the dvd players works for sure, and I'm sure the phones do, but I don't have the cords for them. Tell me what you want Jess and I'll hook you up. I thought I'd get it all together this weekend, but "superdad' has to work so it may be sometime this week that I'll get to the center. You can check it all out sometime after school this week! You're not poor!!! | |
