A temporary Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death Friday in a rush of thousands of early morning shoppers as he attempted to unlock the doors of a Valley Stream, New York, store at 5 a.m., police said.

I heard about that on the radio this afternoon. Very sad, and pathetic.

People should be ashamed of themselves. Their behavior is very riddiculus. If you are one of those people who enjoy pushing people around in order to get what you want, I hope you feel real good about yourself when you give the present you fought for!!!!!!

Me too, Luke. I did have to go to the pharmacy today, but it was U-Save, not Wal-Mart. Lots of traffic. It was good to get home.

I agree! Used to be in retail, can't drag me out on Black Friday. I'd rather play full price than fight the crowd

The hubby got home at 4:30 this morning and drove by Walmart on his way home. He said it was packed. I couldn't freaking imagine getting up early to go shopping. I hate shopping anyway. We went this afternoon to wally world and there was a lot of specials still out for sale. Sometimes people are just plain crazy!

My hubby got up at 4, and he did get in on some pretty good deals. He didn't get home til almost 6:30 - it took him forever to check out. He was amazed that so many people in Hays went out to go shopping.

My, mom, sis and I did some shopping in Kearney, yesteray morning. Target was a zoo. I heard some lady talking to her little boy (about 8 or 9), "I can't believe these women were pushing you around." There were a lot of electronics left at Wal-Mart later that morning in Kearney, but all the smaller things were gone with the wind. I got a nice bruise on my leg from a wild woman with a shopping cart.

It is staggering that those people continued to shop at that NY Wal-Mart after this poor guy died. You know probably most of the stuff they bought was for themselves anyway.

Did you say something to the women? I can't even imagine how the people who work with this poor guy felt.....being a part of the Walmart family (as much as I hate to admit it) makes me absolutely sick and something needs to be done about black Friday as a whole. Oz you are so brave for getting out in that craziness!

if you watch the video, the shoppers seem so unfazed of what they have done...i can't believe ppl...you can get the same sells or better ones online the same damn day...

In some of the news broadcasts, they showed a store other than Wal-Mart; Target, maybe. They showed a wide, honeycomb metal security fence raising up by motor. The people were waiting outside of that. Seems like a good idea. The employee(s) can unlock the doors behind the security fence, push a button to raise the fence and get the heck out of the way. Not sure it's worth it for one day a year around here, though. Just sounded like a good idea.

Maybe they should do it by numbers. A week before the sale put out one hundred numbers only to be picked if you plan to attend the sale opening. start with 1 to 100 and when they are all taken do 101 to 200 and so on up to the number 500 if need be. Then the day of the sale call them by number allowing only 5 or 10 in every 15 seconds.

Then to avoid some of the bitching by those who picked higher numbers they could be eligible for extra discounts, or maybe drawings for gift cards. The first 100 in get only that, the chance to be first. The numbers 101 to 200 can get an extra 5% off, the numbers 201 to 300 an extra 10% off, or something similar to appease the higher number picks.

Anyone trying to cut in line or otherwise cheat is escorted out by two large security men. Anyone caught trying to shove or otherwise forcibly obtain their wanted items shall be escorted to the front door by these large men to an awaiting police officer who will charge them with battery.

I was at a garage sale once when some old cow with an antique shop was hogging a box of Hot Wheels cars looking for older redline models and in doing so was keeping a small boy from looking by body blocking him. I said excuse me mam, I'd like to see those too and took the box much to her astonishment. Then much to her disgust I handed the box to the boy and stood between he and her till he got what he wanted. She was furious but the lady selling the cars grinned real big at me and a boy left happy.

BTW it cracks me up evertime they say black friday, cause you can tell they are uncomfortable with the word black.
