Not to worry- my psychologist tells me that the stages of grief don't necessarily occur in order. Nor must one NECESSARILY go through all stages. Here in a few weeks, you might just skip from denial straight through to despair and acceptance.

Personally, I'm looking foreward to a massive resurgence in right-wing conspiracy-theory and militia-style crackpot-culture. I have deep roots there, and look foreward to a revival. Soon enough it'll once again become "patriotic" to question one's government.

Sarah Palin's hubby "First Dude" Todd was a Member up until 2005 of a radical group in Alaska that the Leader wants to succeed from the United States. So you could extrapolate that she has ties to an Extremist as well. They both went to meetings for this group, Extremists.

I do not care for Obama, but at least he isn't as skitish and constantly chasing his tail like McCain.

Speaking about her husband yes she sold the states jet on E-Bay but did you also know that she then put her husband ( a pilot) on the states payroll to fly her on trips.

To the extent that it's true, Obama's association with the Weatherman doesn't bother me a bit.

Look at the context at the time. In the late 60's, we were in the middle of an unjust, counterproductive war based on false information (including but not limited to lies), where we peace-loving Amerikans killed HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of brown people (does any of this sound familiar??).

Not to mention that in Vietnam, 58,000+ of our own people died- many of whom were FORCED to go there.

So in that context, I won't really say that it was "wrong" to bomb the Pentagon. I wouldn't do it... but I won't say it was "wrong".

Is anybody here willing to say that killing hundreds of thousands of people for political points and dollars is "right"? 'Cause that's what Bush did. And that's what McCain wants to do more of.

I didn't say that HE got dollars- though lots of influential people DID. But Bush got plenty of political points before the whole thing went sour.

Bush got gobs of political points early-on. Likely remembered the temporary record-high approval ratings of his Daddy during the first gulf war. Nothing gets approval from Amerikans like a brand new war. And as I recall, Dubya's approval ratings spiked similarly in the early days of our idiotic war. Matter of fact, one could make the case that this Iraq stunt helped Bush hold on to the presidency in 2004, as we Amerikans weren't too keen on replacing a pres during a war. He certainly gained some of his much-touted (but short-lived) "political capital" as he called it- and "spent" it on a number of power-grabs.

As far as money goes, I'm not aware of Bush getting any directly. But his inner circle certainly did. Defense contractors and logicstics companies (like Haliburton and KBR) have made BILLIONS off killing this latest batch of brown people. Not to mention more BILLIONS made by oil companies from various oil-price spikes related both directly and indirectly to the war. And there's the Iraqi oil itself- Iraq has a much-touted 70-some-billion "surplus" from oil revenue. I don't care to look up the details, but I'd be willing to bet that some well-connected companies have got their cut of THAT, too.

Mike, I know that I'm not going to convince you that we Amerikans go to war for dubious reasons and ulterior motives. The reality is that it's never that simple. There's no villain (even Bush) plotting to do some dirty deeds directly for financial/political gain. But certain political and financial interests certainly DO create a willingness to go to war that otherwise wouldn't be there.

I don't think you're really interested in understanding this point... but on the off chance that you are, I'm gonna recommend a documentary that will explain it much better than I can:

The movie definitely has a lefty-tilt, but it focuses largely on warnings made by Dwight Eisenhower about what would happen to this country if a president who didn't understand the military the way HE did were elected. The term "military-industrial complex wasn't invented by hippies. That was Eisenhower's description. There's some stuff in there from John McCain, too. This was made several years ago... has nothing to do with this election. I actually picked up that movie at the Movie Gallery in Hays maybe three years ago. They might still have it.
