| This is taken from a CNN story I read today: - Quote :
- More than 300 people are missing since Hurricane Ike hit the Texas coast last month, and the obstacles to finding them are frustrating family and friends who desperately want to know if their loved ones are dead or alive.
These family and friends want answers: Why are so many still missing? Why has the first organized search for bodies, to be held Thursday on the battered Bolivar Peninsula, taken so long? Now my question here is....why the hell were your relatives so damned stupid that they didnt leave when the mandatory evacuations were posted?????????????? If they had, they wouldnt BE missing and you wouldnt be sitting around wondering what happened to them!!! Honestly, in situations like this I have ZERO sympathy for these people. They were told DAYS in advance to get the hell out of Dodge and they CHOSE to stay and die. Whatever.

| They were told they would face "Certain Death" if they stayed. I'm sorry the families are suffering, not knowing where their loved ones are, but I agree with you... those who decided to ignore the warnings, I have no sympathy for them. | |

| Not cold hearted just realistic. But you made me ponder other related circumstances. Even though the term "certain death" can't be applied do you feel the same way about people who contract lung cancer and have been lifetime smokers, people who contract AIDS from risky sex, people who ride motorcycles without helmets and die of head injury, ect. Just wondered. Guess life is all about choices. I understand what you are saying and I agree. If you make poor choices be prepared to live with them, or in this case die with them. | |

I saw Chertoff on TV before the hurricane hit saying that if they stay, they should take a magic marker and write their name on their torso so the body could be identified.

| I also saw that they should write their SSN on their arms. I laughed for awhile at the reality of that statement. Honestly, they were told to go. Go. Get out. Run to the hills. And for those who stayed and FEMA and other authorities had to go in and rescue: they should be billed for the cost of the rescue. 100%. As a tax payer, I don't want to foot the bill for sending in a swamp boat to carry those guys out. | |
