Puppy Dog's Names

We just put down a deposit on a dog we are going to get around August 15th. It's going to be a male black lab, hopefully a good hunting dog. I have been searching for names and can't find any that just reach out and grab me. Any suggestions?

Baxter said to name him Baxter.
Or you could do like we did with the Lab we once had. We named him after supper. We had gumbo that night. It was a good name for him. I just hope you don't have quiche that night.

I thought about this too. I've usually just went and got the dog on the spur of the moment, this is the first time we've ever "ordered" one, so I am going to have time to think about it.

Suzy, I really like "Bob" but I doubt the hubby will go for it.

How about "THE HUNTER"

Mrs. Too and Suzy were both thinking Bob. That's funny. Tell Baxter that I have to discuss this with 7 other members of the family. One can't talk very much though.

Hunter does sound kind of good too...

well...its been almost 4 years since we had to put our black lab down and i still cant bring myself to get another... I have hope though that one day maybe....and after we get thru this cat thing

I knew some people who's dog was named Dumb Shit.... I never could remember it's name and called it Shit Head

That's cool! We're getting ours from Oberlin, KS. The hubby decided last night that we're naming it Lakota.

I just thought I would update everyone on the pup. He's such a good dog, we have only had him two weeks and he knows his name, knows when he needs to go outside (so if there's an accident, it's our fault). I'm just so glad that we decided to get him. He's going to be huge too! His AKC official name is Lakota Sioux Blackfoot.

Oh and BTW Suzy, he loves the neighbor!

That's funny! Just what the neighbor needs... he gets along better with the dogs, than humans, anyway!

Okay ladies and gentleman, I spoke too soon. Apparently the honeymoon has ended and he has started turning into a meanie for about an hour and a half each night. He attacks then when we go to correct him, he growls and barks at us. Last night I told him he could either attack his little red dog or get in the hole (pet carrier) and he jumped in then had a major behavior for over an hour. The hubby came home and let him out. I went to bed!!!

Any suggestions????

Go "dog whisperer" on him and lay him onto his side. Hold him there until he quits squirming, then hold him there a little longer, until he submits. Don't be afraid of him. You're the leader, not him.

Okay, tonight he went off on our son and ran into one of our daughter's daughter's chairs, took the fight right out of him. We also incorporated a chain out back (very safe location). The next time he went off, I told him it was either the chain gain or the hole. He straightened up! I feel like that prison warden in Arizona.

Thanks for everyone's advice though!!!! He's too cute not to love, but dang, it's getting a little hard to like him sometimes.

if he is that aggressive when upset I'd be careful..... is he just a puppy still?

How big is he? If he's that aggressive, is there any way you could return him to the breeder for another dog or a refund? Would you even consider that? I know you were really excited to get him. Are you afraid he'll hurt your grandkids?

Yeah, he is a puppy. We have a vet appt. on Friday, so I will be asking for their advice as well. Last night was much better with the chain. We just really watch him and the girls very closely. He only does it a couple of times a day, other than that, he's sweet as can be.

It could be being named after two hostile nations. lol Has all that interconflict going on. Perhaps you need a treaty.

Sorry the name was my hubby's idea, except for the Blackfoot, there was room on the AKC form, so I threw it in there. It's because of the hubby's tribe. My mom was born in Comanche, OK, I could have thrown that in there too.
