Well Ellis County does have a pretty damn low unemployment rate. Sure, the jobs might not pay much- but there are apparently plenty of them.

Obviously N.E.W. wasn't willing to raise their pay rates to get more people to hire on. That's all it would take.

I wanted to go work at NEW for a 2nd job. The problem I had with them is that they only offered training during the day and i just couldn't give up my daytime job to do their training. I'm sure that stopped others from working there also.
I also feel the City of Hays needs to loosen their grip on the wages here. If Hays wants to grow they need to let places like NEW pay more and not have a cap on wages.

Low wages were my biggest problem with the town of Hays- otherwise I enjoyed my time there. I took a 38% pay cut when I moved from Colorado to Hays. And I got a 45% pay raise when I moved from Hays to Wichita (and this was after 4 years worth of raises in Hays).

I worked at the John Deere place when I was in Hays- but the low wages weren't limited to THAT shop. They were all that way.

I worked at NEW when they first came to town. was the typical call center theme which i wasnt a fan of. i hope the employees there have found different jobs
