Rapes in Hays

Has anyone heard anymore information on this? My 2 daughters in high school just got texts saying that it was part of a 'gang initiation'. I don't want to start any rumors or hearsay, but I am scared not only for my teens but also for all the women because there just doesn't seem to be much talk or news about it.

I know what you mean about the lack of info out to the public. I guess until they catch the perps or enough time passes it gets forgotten, about all folks can do is hide inside and don't go anywhere if ya don't have to. If ya do have to go somewhere, go with people you know, safety in numbers. Walk or jog with friends, take your phone along and be very wary of your surroundings.

About 20 years ago one guy in a pickup drove around a Los Angeles area known for heavy gang activity and shot 4 or 5 men at random. By dark the streets were empty and the mayor said it was unreal to see such quiet after dark.

Gang members are gang members for a reason. Kill a few and the rest will hide in fear.

Dear police who read this board. I've heard several different stories going around town regarding more rapes, a gang, blah blah could you PLEASE make some kind of "official" statement so the women in this town know WTF is going on for legit? Please let us know what's fact and whats fiction asap.

thats how they keep us safe and catch the bad guys..... sit quiet on info and wait till the bad guy strikes enough they finally catch him

Its very unnerving.

At any given moment, a cop is 5 to 15 minutes away. I can respond with deadly force in far less time. A light frame 9mm may be in order.

I would love to own a gun! I have been keeping my key fob with me at all times while I am at home. If I hear something, I will grab it and hit the panic button while my horse of a dog is mauling the person to death!

Well KS is a concealed-carry state. Nothing stopping you from getting a permit.

I don't know if they offer the classes in Hays (though I don't see why they wouldn't), but they're available at several places here in Wichita.

I just saw on Facebook's "People of Hays", that rumor has it that there have been 8 rapes to date. If that is true, it would be nice to know locations and facts, to be better prepared. Like, were they all random women out alone, or were they using gimmicks to get the women alone, such as a small child prop, or waiting by your car at night, etc...

The Hays Police Department has responded to rumors surrounding recent sexual assaults that are under investigation. Two assaults have been reported to the police this month.

The second was July 10th around midnight at an apartment two blocks from campus. That suspect is a black male, late teens to early 20’s with short cropped hair.
These are the only two reported sexual assaults, and police say they do not appear to be related. Police Chief Don Scheibler also says at this time there is no indication that they are related to any type of gang activity.
Police are still asking for anyone with information to contact the department.

Well that's a relief. Glad they addressed this stuff.

I know the word is out in Hays that every place in town is out of pepper spray, but there's a new store across from the north Pizza Hut on Vine called Joe Bob's Outfitters. My daughter got some there. She said they have plenty of it. The one that attaches to a keychain is only $7.99, a little more for the "maximum strength."

Hays Post story on arrest. Sounds like many in Hays have already made up their minds as to his guilt. That's our All-American City.

the germans in hays rapes hundreds everyday why can't we arrest them?
