Local Weather

If the winds are like expected there will be wide flat areas with almost no snow and places it can collect will have huge drifts. Just hope the power stays on and the roads don't get slick. My heaters don't need electricity, but if there's gonna be a friggin snowstorm I at least want to see lots of Christmas lights casting a colorful glow across it.

The snow should start here today. I don't think we're supposed to get as much as other parts of eastern KS, but the forecast still doesn't look fun. Enjoy your snow day (those of you who get to enjoy it). Stay warm!!!

It has been pretty much a windless snow so far.
3" - 4" in my drive.

I had to go into work this morning for a bit and then my friggen wipers quit working so I had to drive clear the hell out to Wal-Mart. The best advice I can give today is STAY HOME! Its a bitch out there and a good 80% of the people out are clueless on how to drive in this crap.

Im actually surprised Fast Eddie hasnt called off school for FHSU.

We've got about 6" so far, with more expected all day... it's still coming up from the Wichita area.

Hammond won't call classes off, too damn arrogant 2 do that...

He'll never call off classes and he'll put all of his staff and students at risk because of his arogance. I got news for him, I'm staying home where its warm. No sense in trying to kill yourself to set in a room that is only a third full because of the other intelligent students who also decided it wasn't worth it either. I've gone in semesters past where the Teacher didn't even show because of the weather conditions.

his reasons for not calling classes off is b/c he states majority of the students live on campus...hell they are the ones that miss the most...so what's the god damn point...i just said screw & stayed home...

anyone have a update on how much we have so far?

For anyone who wants a shirt, Chinese food, video game, etc, the Mall is still open. My wife works there and said they probably won't close down. Why? I do not know. She said that individual stores cannot even make that decision for themselves. It's up to a "property manager".

Does anyone else think that when dedication turns to stupidity dangerous things can happen?

I'm an FHSU student and didn't even bother to go today. I'm glad that Eazy Ed Hammond has decided to let people drive home in even crappier conditions then when they came to class this morning though.

The weather doesn't bother Hammond, he doesn't have far to go to get home. One things for sure, if the wind picks up, the drifts will really build up as fast as they can plow them back open.

Lets see, I think it was 1991. Someone where in there. The husband took a job in Colby but at first we couldnt find a place to live so we stayed in Brewster until we found something in Colby. Could have been like 3 months cause the kids never went to school in Brewster, just Colby. Hmmm. Im sorry, the memory isnt what it used to be.

i was in 8th grade then...i had my accident in sept 1992...

This thread kinda makes me miss Hays. The weather there sucked ass, but it made a good story for the folks back home. Wichita is less spectacular. We has a little ice this morning. It melted.

I'm sorry but i do have to chime in here. Right now we have just a dusting of snow here in Johnson County where i am. Its suppose to only snow 2 to 3 inches here. It was just above freezing here all day so what fell came down as rain until after it got dark.

I remember snows like that in Hays, when I was a kid, NB. Love the door impression, too.

Pipes finally thawed with no breaks. Only took me from 2:AM to 11:00 AM to figure out where they froze up. So damn cold they were froze up where it hadn't happened before.

It makes my lights look nice, but taint so pretty if you're hunting for extension cords in a drift to set up a heater and digging a drift of it off your cellar door at 4:00 AM to get at your pipes.

Part of my freezeup was thanks to plumbers here a couple months ago. I specifically told them to be sure to shut the door at the bottom of the steps and leave open the crawlspace door near the furnace to help deter freeze ups. They did just the opposite.

After digging out 2 cars in waist deep drifts,came in only to find out pipes were frozen in the bathroom. After about 30 min. with a portable heater, all was good again. Tonight will be 10 below,so those of you who live in mobile homes I suggest you run some water tonight. Those of you who wished for this,ought to come and dig the rest of us out....lol

funny thing is obama promised shovel jobs to million of americans and he followed through on it....lol

well, I wanted the snow and I cleaned the snow off at Rats place so I did my good deed for the day..... helps to have a snowblower
